Not many FOX affiliates on the East Coast will air the Dallas Cowboys-San Francisco 49ers game Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 4:15 p.m. EDT. The game is scheduled to be shown in the Jacksonville, Florida area and in some portions of New York State (including Rochester and Syracuse).

Mike Utley (who was an offensive lineman rather than a defensive one) was actually paralyzed in 1991. The Lion who was paralyzed in the late 1990's was linebacker Reggie Brown, in a freak accident in which his neck was horrifically compressed during a play against the New York Jets in 1997. Thankfully, emergency surgery performed immediately after the injury has since given him back his mobility.

The two most noteworthy players to have worn number 78 for the Detroit Lions were defensive end Darris McCord (1955-67) and defensive tackle Doug English (1975-79, 1981-85). More recently, defensive lineman Cory Redding sported number 78 for the Lions from 2003-08.

The Detroit Lions starting quarterback is #9 Matthew Stafford. Stafford was drafted 1st overall in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Georgia. Stafford is the Lions franchise QB and is projected to have a great career and lead the Lions for years to come.

The last time it happened was on December 15, 2013, and the game turned out to be a wild and unpredictable affair. Playing without injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay won the game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas by the score of 37-36.

In 2011, the Detroit Lions finally broke futility and made the play-offs for the first time since 1999. They went 10-6 and finished 2nd in the NFC North, but made the wild card. They lost to the New Orleans Saints 45-28.
