Is it possible to make a duct tape dress?

User Avatar

Asked by Mmgirl00

If you do the math:

You generally need approximately 3 yards of fabric to make a dress, which is 108 inches x 54 inches.

  • Duct tape is usually 2 inches wide, and comes in a roll of 50 yards (which is 1800 inches).
  • If you have 1/4 of an inch of overlap on each side of the tape when you're making the dress (think of it as "seam allowance), you'll have 1.5 inches left. You'll need 36 rows of tape for 54 inches of fabric (because 54 / 1.5 = 36)
  • Each row will be 108 inches long.
  • 36 (rows of tape) x 108 (inches of fabric needed) = 3888 inches of tape.
  • Since each roll is 1800 inches, you will need at least 3 rolls of duct tape.
