However safe or not you may hear that a drug can be, one always takes a risk because everyone's body chemistry is different.
You start off with the usual pre-up anticipation, usually takes 30-60 minutes to come on, although putting your head down and breathing deeply, then pulling upright can bring it on quicker.
Increased body rushes and a warm buzzing feeling of well being, sweating and feeling very hot, maybe a little sick (slating). As it progresses these feeling become more intense and your eyes start to roll often making it difficult to see, not that this is a problem. Jaw slackens and moves around, sometimes leading to gurning type faces. Uncontrolled spasms of muscles can happen, though it is rare.
Emotional well being is immense with strong feelings of love towards friends and strangers alike (if they are feeling the same as you are anyway, big smiles) You may tell people you love them and mean it, hugging hard increases the rushing feelings and intensity of the high.
Smoking cigarettes or weed also increases the rushes as does drinking a warming spirit such as brandy. You may stumble around a bit, but music is intensified and dancing is easy even if you have little rhythm usually. You can sweat a lot and you do feel hot so ensure to hydrate.
The feeling hit a peak and slowly diminish over a few hours. Sleep is possible probably a few hours later. Next day comedown is not so bad, tired mainly, no real dirty feelings you can get with other drugs.
Depending upon the recipe used to make the ecstasy, users can experience permanent damage to areas of the brain which determine thought patterns, memory and pleasure.
Many of those symptoms and effects are from the other drugs in common ecstasy pills. Pure MDMA has none of those side effects or risks, however hard to find, PURE ECSTASY (MDMA) DOES NOTHING HARMFUL TO THE BODY. At least thus far nothing negative has been found that is accepted in the scientific community. The brain damage claim is completely false, when used in the "permanent" context. MDMA lowers the levels of serotonin in the brain, which after 2-3 months of abstinence return 100% to normal. It should also be noted that serotonin controls things like mood, sleep, and memory.
The fact that it affects memory processing makes it easier to believe the DEA funded study showing "holes" in the brain and "permanent damage". But as it was already said the effects are very temporary, and ask anyone who has done 2-3 pills in one day (one is enough for an entire night), and I will bet they won't have noticed any difficulty with memory.
If this question is in regards to personal use you'll want to find the purest kind possible. If its for a school project, the teacher isn't allowed to condone the portrayal of something illegal as 'not bad', so you'll have to report on the common street ecstasy that's laced with heroin, cocaine, speed, etc. Sad indeed that one of the safest and most pleasurable drugs that can be used recreatonally was taken out of the pharmaceutical industry's hands and placed in those of criminals and made potentially dangerous and potentially addictive. In the last GOVERNMENT ranking of dangerous drugs, alcohol was ranked #5, and even in ecstasy's current state it ranked #16. Also below that of tobacco and marijuana. Illegal drug prices are often 1-200% higher than the cost to make them, so you can imagine how cheap it would be to legally manufacture a 20-30 dollar ecstasy pill. An ecstasy pill lasts around 5 hours or so, even disregarding how cheap it would be (and how much safer), think of the last time you went drinking somewhere for 5 hours and paid 20-30 dollars...

In addition, its incredibly harmful to the brain. What this drug does, is it increases the amount of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, in the process of the re-uptake. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter that controls your calmness and happiness. With the surplus of serotonin going into the brain, it takes off the equilibrium of your body, so when you get off of the drug, you won't feel any happiness emotions, which could lead to depression and later, suicide.

Other names for ecstasy vary in difeerent regions of the u.s. Southern ecstasy takers nicknamed them "beans" for its similarity to the popular fruit. Coastal regions call them "thizz" or "amps". added info, do not think that ecstasy is not addictive. while the chemical compound for E is not, in itself addicting, most pills that have come out in the last several years are cut with half heroin or cocaine, which may cause the experimenter to crash and crave when coming down.

In February of 2004 a 16 year old girl from Connecticut went to a party with some of her friends. She took a powdered form of Ecstasy that resulted in a seizure and soon after death. In April of 2004 a 14 year old girl took ecstasy at a sleepover with two of her friends, and the next day she died from an overdose. In November of 2009 a 20 year old man was found unconscious in his apartment after taking Ecstasy, and was taken to hospital only to die a little bit after arrival.
