Forklifts

A fork lift is a vehicle used for lifting and moving heavy objects. A good example of how a forklift is used can be found at grocery warehouses. Large palettes of products are pulled from the shelves, and a forklift is used to move them to lift and load them onto the trucks for delivery.

What is Forklift with Slip Sheet Attachment?

To begin answering the question, lets first answer- What is a slip sheet and when is it used. A slip sheet was the alternative to pallets, used by China and other Asian countries when certain wood packaging was banned for import into the US due to certain bugs. The slip sheet is a thin sheet of cardboard, more like thick craft paper, that is placed underneath a stack of cartons and then shrinkwrapped. The slip sheet extends about 6 inches past the stack of cartons to allow for grabbing by the slipsheet attachment of the forklift. The slip sheet attachment is like a small clamp to grab the lip of the slip sheet and then pulls the slip sheet onto the forklift blades. Another alternative to the slipsheet attachment is the side clamper.

How old is my Yale forklift?

Your Yale forklift should carry a serial number either on the rated capacity plate or certainly hard stamped on the chassis.

This serial number can be used to determine the year of manufacture. If you post the serial number we may be able to determine the year using a Hyster Spec Book we have.

How-to pick up a counterbalance forklift with a counterbalance forklift?

In order to lift a counterbalance lift truck you need to appreciate weight, load centres and centre of gravity position.

The centre of gravity of an unladen counterbalance truck sits at a point directly below the operators seat. This point must align with the centre of the lifting truck or the machine may tip sideways off the forks. The forks should be positioned as wide as practicably possible to reduce the risk of sideways slipping.

A forklift weighs a lot more than is initially apparent. A 2.5t truck typically weighs 4.25t so a 5t truck will be needed to lift it.

Consideration also needs to be given to the load centre. A 2.5t lift truck is typically about 1200mm wide giving it a load centre of 600mm. Given a small undercut to avoid damaging the truck a load centre of 700mm would increase the weight by about 400-500kgs.

Also be aware that electric trucks for example may have motors / gearboxes that extend below the bottom of the truck. Carelessly positioned forks can potentially cause costly damage.

What is the difference between a car and a forklift?

The size, the color, the windshield, fork truck is usually electric or propane powered. Fork truck usually turns the rear wheels while the fronts are fixed, while the car usually has turning front wheels with fixed rear wheels. Fork trucks usually have solid rubber tires rather than pneumatic tires like an auto.

The most significant difference is the weight and the center of gravity which is much greater and lower (respectively) than automobiles. This is also in addition to the most obvious, the purpose of the vehicle. Forklifts purpose is to transport cargo in a specific environment, and can only carry the operator and cannot carry passengers.

Timing marks for CAT GP 30 forklift engine?

Make sure number one cylinder is on tdc compression stroke, pull the spark plug and place your finger over the opening, quickly bump the ignition and you will feel pressure blowing against your finger, not sucking. The crank pulley has a notch that lines up on the left front of the case at about 10 o'clock position. Line up the oil pump pulley notch with it's case marking at about 10'oclock on the left side as well, align the cam marking to it's mark on the head, also at about 10 o'clock. When attempting to install the belt ensure that the tensioner pulley is fully moved to the left and the bolt tightened down so it does not add tension to the belt. Install the belt in order, crank pulley, oil pump pulley then cam. Check all timing marks after belt is installed. When releasing and tightening the tensioner pulley, first turn the motor two camshaft teeth clockwise from the cam timing mark, (this adds proper tension.) Then release tensioner pulley, ALWAYS tighten the bottom bolt first, then the top. During these last steps of setting the tensioner pulley do not "check" the belt by hand or turn the motor counter clockwise as this will change the tension. All of my clockwise and left right directions are from the perspective of looking at the front of the motor or sitting in the operators seat.

What is travelplugging on a forklift?

Plugging on a forklift is a term used for the braking technique used on electric trucks.

The opposite direction is selected during travel to slow the truck and travel in the opposite direction if desired.

It is especially beneficial when used with pedestrian controlled vehicles operating on slopes.

Plugging saves on brake wear and extends the battery life.
