Garrett Morgan

African-American inventor and entrepreneur Garrett Morgan is credited with inventing one of the earliest designs of the modern gas mask as well as creating an original type of traffic signal. He became nationally known after using his own gas mask design to assist in the rescue of two men who were trapped in a fume-filled tunnel after an explosion.
