Those hearing the story get to repeat the growing list and so become part of the story. Children also love the the sly fox who uses great strategy to get the gingerbread man close enough to eat. Everything has a purpose so why do some people over decorate their houses to resemble the gingerbread house discovered by the abandoned children in another story?
