Often items that should be be safe will contain wheat based thickeners or flavorings. The only way to know for sure is to READ that label.

Yes some do. But Hershey's strawberry, caramel, and chocolate syrup are claimed to be gluten free basing on there website. But if you are highly sensitive with Celiac Disease I would stay away from it.

The grains in question are wheat, rye, barley, kamut, spelt, and triticale. There are other grains that have gluten but not the same type that causes a reaction in Celiac patients, such as corn.

A few restaurants may contaminate the oil by cooking breaded chicken in the oil.

You are wrong. Monosodium glutamate is not derived from wheat. Its not good for you by any means but it is safe from a celiac standpoint.

Since whiskey is distilled the product containing gluten (called mash which can be a mixture of many cereals including barley, rye etc. which contain gluten) no gluten can be transferred through the distillation process. However, the manufacturers of some American whiskies do add some of the mash back into the distilled product for flavour. Jack Daniels doesn't but I have heard that Jim Beam does.

For a Scotch or Irish Whiskey to be called Scotch/Irish this is not permitted so, by definition, all Scotch and Irish whiskies are gluten free.

Generally yes if its a real dairy shake (many are not). Even though a food may contain primarily gluten free ingredients, there is a strong potential for cross contamination. You can do these steps at home with your own spices which must be checked for anti caking agents. Fish and shellfish are also safe. Dairy products such as 100% MILK and butter are gluten free but not all margarines are.
