Graphs

Graphs often collect a set of data in a group of people. There are many kinds of graphs: pie charts (circle charts), bar graphs, line graphs, data tables, pictographs, flow charts, histograms, etc.

Kinds of bar graph?

bar graph, line graph and pie graph

What is the name of the slant on a line graph?

It is called a graph cut.

Example: increments go from 0 straight to 40

In a line graph the dependent variable is plotted on the?

It is plotte on the x-axis. I dad the same question in science.

What is the relationship between bar graphs and picture graphs?

bar graph is in line forms and picture graph is in pictorial form

Importance of line graph?

The major importance of a line graph is that it allows a person to visually see the relationship between two major variables. A line graph contains a vertical axis and a horizontal axis.

Advantage of pie chart?

It is a nice visual representation of the data that many people can look at and immediately have an intuitive understanding of what is going on.

Bigger piece of the pie means more to almost everyone, this is not so obvious with other graphs.

How do you create a histogram in Excel?

= = First of all, you need to open an Excel spreadsheet. Then go to 'TOOLS' in the menu bar and select 'ADD INS.' Choose 'ANALYSIS TOOL PACK' and click okay. Now we're on to making the histogram~ On your excel spreadsheet (the one that contains the data) you're going to have to to create. a column for the number of bins needed. This 'bin' of which I spoke of is the grouping of data based on the range of data you have. Find the range of data by doing this~ First, go to 'DATA' in the menu bar and select 'SORT.' Then choose the column you would like to sort and choose ascending or descending order. Then choose a different column on your spreadsheet and simply add the bins Navigate to "TOOLS, DATA ANALYSIS" and then select Histogram. Click on the small box to the right for input range. Highlight the column on your spreadsheet containing the data that you choose to be binned. This will turn into your frequency value. After that, highlight the bins column for the bin range. Go to 'OUTPUT OPTIONS' and choose 'NEW WORKSHEET PLY:' and then choose a name for the worksheet. It will be set up with a brand new, titled spreadsheet with 2 columns (bin and frequency). Then you highlight the frequency column of data and go to 'CHART WIZARD' pick column graph. Click on 'SERIES TAB CATEGORY (X) LABELS' to make sure that your x axis is labeled 'BIN.' Then you just complete it like normal. Help from~ http://www.pas.rochester.edu/~pavone/particle-www/teachers/analysis/HISTOGRAMS.htm

What is a horizontal bar graph?

it is a bargraph gut it horzontal instead of virtical

Why is a pie chart called a pie chart?

Because it is round and the sections are shaped like the pieces of a pie.

Why is it wrong to join up the tops of the bar graph to make a line graph?

A line graph demonstrates the change in values across another series of values. For example the number of apples, oranges, and bananas sold per day for a week.

If a bar graph does not have a series of values for a single category, a line cannot be plotted. One cannot connect the tops of a bar graph showing the number of apples, oranges, and bananas remaining at the end of the day for 1 day. The line would indicate nothing.

What does the diagonal line represent in a line graph?

The diagonal lines show how the values change over time, also known as a trend

What is the difference between a histogram and polygon?

1. A histogram is two-dimensional while a polygon has more than four dimensions.

2. A histogram may be drawn from a histogram by joining the mid points of upper horizontal sides of each rectangle. But a histogram can not be drawn from a polygon.

3. The frequency polygon of several distributions can be plotted on the same axis while more than one histogram can not be drawn on the same axis.

4. It is possible to compare the polygon of several distributions as they can be plotted on the same axis. But to compare histogram we must have a graph for each distribution.

5. Polygon an outline of data pattern is sketched more clearly than histogram.

Why are the points of a bar graph not connected?

Because their is no lines on the graph to connect the point.

List two things that line graphs allow scientists to do?

They allow scientist to identify trends and make predictions

What is the similarity between bar graphs and histograms?

they both use bars to show data and show ranges of data aswell.
