This is a fourth dynasty tomb that was intended to be the resting place of the pharaoh Khufu. This is positioned to the magnetic north and to a point in the sky. This ties in the Egyptian religion of the afterlife.

The Great Pyramid of Giza covers an area of 13 acres, which is equal to 53,000 square meters. Approximately 2.5 million limestone blocks were used to build the Great Pyramid, and each block weighs about 2.6 tons.

The ancient Egyptians in this period, it is thought, never had pulleys. They most likely used inclined planes, ramps made from rubble mixed with clay to raise the block to the desired level. The blocks themselves were placed on sledges and dragged up the ramp by gangs of slaves. The bigger the block the more slaves it took. The blocks were put in their final position by the use of levers and brute force.
