Harry Houdini

American magician. Could escape from any kind of bonds or container. Dies Halloween night 1926. You can see many of his personal items at the Magic Castle in LA. He claimed he could withstand anyones punch and sum kid punched him in the stomach before he was ready. he died in hospital about two or three days later. He died of a burst appendix while doing a trick hanging upside down in a container of water and before he could be pulled out he was dead. We were both right. I looked it up a few minutes ago. He did die of the appendix in a hospital.

Houdini's dislikes:

Houdini had great disdain for those that used his art of trickery, to cheat people. He exposed frauds and cheats everywhere he traveled and because of this had many threats on his life. He exposed phoney spiritualists and gambling cheats throughout his long career. Houdini loved magicians but disliked those who copied the challenge escape that was his invention.

He read a book about a famous magician named Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin

Bess's version of the story is that Houdini performed at her high school in 1894, and during the performance, mistakenly splashed acid on Bess's dress. Embarrassed and apologetic, Houdini had his mother sew a new dress for Bess. Thrilled and charmed by Houdini's thoughtfulness, Bess snuck out of her house to spend the day at Coney Island with him. Later that same day, Houdini proposed and they were married. By all accounts, they had a happy marriage.

Yes he did, and I have photographic evidence that he was in Aberdeen.

In 1909 he performed at Aberdeen Harbour, and went to visit the grave of John Anderson - "The great Wizard of the North" in St. Nicholas'churchyard.

Houdini was born the year John died, but Harry was a great fan of his work. Finding the grave in a rather unkempt fashion, he paid for it to be tended properly for a number of years.

Houdini escaped in a veriety of ways. In handcuffs and locked chains, he used his locksmith skills to unlock the cuffs, along with the occasional slamming on the ground ;D. In chest restrains such as chains or rope, he stuck out his chest while being tied, so he could have a little extra room while excaping. In some cases such as escaping from a jail cell, he would have his wife Besse give him a lockpick through a "good luck kiss." Sometimes he just tampered with the equipment so much it just gaveway.
