Which athlethes have hydrocephalus?
i am not sure but i would say boxers and football players because they hit their heads and the brain can swell
What celebraties have hydrocephalus?
Hydrocephalus has many causes. Anything that alters the flow of the fluid around the brain & spine can cause hydrocephalus. It can be acquired at any age, primarily from any head trauma or as a congenital condition. In older folks it can occur spontaneously in a condition called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). In the case of NPH, there is a chance of misdiagnosis because some symtoms can appear to be those of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or other neurological conditions or forms of dimentia.
Hydrocephalus can be caused by everything from low folic acid levels in women of childbearing years to concussive incidents/traumatic head injury (TBI) at any age. A brain bleed can also occur at any age and result in hydrocephalus. We are seeing veterans returning from conflicts, who have had concussive incidents, acquiring hydrocephalus as well.
The Hydrocephalus Support Group, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization in Washington state offering moral support and information to families, friends, caregivers and those (of all ages) living with the condition of hydrocephalus. We meet on the third Saturday of each month, from 12:45 pm to 3:00 pm in the Casey Conference Room at Swedish Hospital's Cherry Hill campus (17th & Jefferson/Seattle). Drop ins & kids are welcome.
Every case of hydrocephalus is unique. The cause of the damage is pressure on the brain from the excess fluid around the brain. Shunting is the standard treatment, but some damage may be permanent, especially if treatment isn't prompt--at any age. Depending on what part of the brain is damaged, there can be an array of issues.
Not all cases of hydrocephalus result in cp.
Hydrocephalus is a brain disorder that is usually the result of another problem within the skull.
Can a woman with hydrocephalus get pregnant?
Yes.I had hydrophilic from birth and was able have to two children.
Is alcohol consumption dangerous with normal pressure hydrocephalus?
I think that it is very dangerous. First, there are already balance issues and
memory issues. Alcohol stays in the body especially if you are drinking it every
evening. I don't think that you ever get really sober so that an accurate evaluation can be done. Most of the time people lie about the amount of
alcohol they really consume.
What condition does neural tube defect cause in a newborn?
This defect may cause children to develop an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid on the brain (hydrocephalus ).
What is the prognosis for patients with hydrocephalus?
Those with hydrocephalus at birth do better than those with later onset due to meningitis. For individuals with normal pressure hydrocephalus, approximately half will benefit by the installation of a shunt.
Yes, Hydrocephalus is over production of CSF in the ventricles of the brain. If there is too much fluid in the brain ,it can increased intracranial pressure.
Some of us have been treated and live to tell about it, however.
This is not a cure, but modern treatment devised by the late John Holter circa 1957 has enabled us to live by stablizing intracranial pressure and devising an artificial drainage route for cerebrospinal fluid.
Still, the device, a shunt as it is called, is prone to breakdowns like any artificial appliance. Known as a shunt malfunction it must be remedied quickly, usually by surgical means or else the risk of death returns due to increased pressure again.
What is Congenital Hydrocephalus?
Hydrocephalus, also known as water on the brain, is a condition where an abnormal amount of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up in the ventricles of the brain. This is a common secondary condition to the neural tube defect Spina Bifida, but it can occur on it's own, most likely from a head injury.
What jobs can people have with hydrocephalus?
If properly treated, any job.
If not properly treated, the brain damage will likely be severe enough that the person could never hold any job.
What is the treatment for non-communicating hydrocephalus?
In some cases of non-communicating hydrocephalus, a direct connection can be made between one of the ventricles and the subarachnoid space, allowing drainage without a shunt.
Can homeopathy cure hydrocephalus for six months old child?
No, according to the latest meta-analysis (a statistical analysis of all "methodically accuarate" studies on homeopathy), homeopathy is no better than a placebo drug. If your child is actually ill, traditional medicine works better than 'alternatives'.
How can hydrocephalus pass from person to person?
It can not. Hydrocephalus is not contagious. It develops with genetic diseases and disorders in an unborn child or newborn, and it can develop in adults who have certain disorders that prevent the proper flow of cerebrospinal fluid from where it is stored in the ventricle cavities inside the skull to outside the skull where it can be eliminated.
Cerebrospinal fluid surrounds the brain and spinal cord and is circulated around the brain to cushion and protect the spinal cord and brain, to remove certain waste products, and to supply nutrients. This fluid moves from one ventricle (storage cavities) to other ventricles. Normally excess fluids will drain from the brain and get absorbed by other tissues. When there is blockage that stops the circulation or emptying process, the fluid can gradually build up and put pressure on the brain and become symptomatic with dementia, disruption in nerve signals and other problems caused by improper function of the Central Nervous System.
Is it dangerous for someone who has hydrocephalus to donate blood?
Someone who has hydrocephalus cannot give blood. I do not know why. It is just stipulated by the transfusion guidelines (google it).
Yes, the symptoms you're experiencing could indicate a potential issue related to your hydrocephalus or neurofibromatosis. Dizziness while turning over in bed may suggest changes in intracranial pressure or issues with balance, while the vibration sensation in your upper thigh could be related to nerve involvement or irritation. It is important to consult your healthcare provider to assess these symptoms further and determine the appropriate course of action.
What is the radiographic appearance of hydrocephalus?
A CT would show an abnormally large cranial vault with increased soft tissue opacity within the cranial vault. An MRI would be able to distinguish between the pathologic fluid and the neural tissue remaining.
What did john holton do with hydrocephalus?
