No. Farid and Meggie have a very sweet and innocent relationship that is slowly begun in the first novel (Inkheart), but grows closer in the second novel as the two travel to the Inkworld together (Inkspell) and then once more slowly dissipates in the last book (Inkdeath).

Sadly, as the series goes on, Farid is so devoted to Dustfinger, he often leaves Meggie feeling resentful and alone, assuming he loves more/is more devoted to Dustfinger than herself. Farid also kisses another girl while working for Orpheus, although Meggie is unaware of this fact.

Meggie meets another boy, Doria, whom Fenoglio later realises may/must be the Doria from a short story he once wrote about an inventor whose wife comes from a distant land and gives him ideas for his stories.

It's sad, but not all first loves work out and Doria's character is very sweet toward Meggie and Fenoglio's revalation hints that Meggie was destined to be with him all along.

Simply because he doesn't want to know the end of his story, we don't know how our lives are going to go, and for me at least I don't want to know, I want to find our along the way, he wants it the same way. Read the books they are awesome!

The thing that really annoyed me was that Meggie and Farid got together, split up, and by the end of the book they still weren't back together!

Dustfinger gets a man to read him into his own story again. of course Farid wants to follow, but when he tells Meggie she wants tog o too. Meggie and Farid read themselves into the Inkheart book to find that basta, Mo, Resa, and Mortola also read themselves in by a man named Orphesus. Tragity strikes when Mo and the others get to this world and Silvertongue see's death itself before him. But Meggie finds out how to save everyone though its a hard and dangerous plan. basta dies, but so does Farid.....then again Farid is menchaned in Inkdeath. I KNOW WHY but you'll just have to read it to found out how. hey just wanted to add in that after Farid dies by Basta's knife on the battle on the hill, Mo kills Basta. but Farid has become like a son to Dustfinger so Dustfinger tests an old legend and he sacrifices his life so Farid can return to life. Read to find out exactly what happens, it is so good!! If you read the last one also you just might see Dustfinger's return.............

In the ending of "Inkdeath" by Cornelia Funke, Farid sacrifices himself to save Dustfinger's life. He trades his life for Dustfinger's, and is fatally wounded in the process. Farid dies, leaving Dustfinger devastated over the loss of his loyal apprentice and friend.
