Haio Hwa Ta (Hiawatha) created the confederacy in order to end the tribal wars that had ravaged the Iroquois land, by uniting the five (later six) tribes into a single body. This would end the wars among the five tribes, and deter other tribes from raids on this single powerful nation. The ultimate goal, according to Haio Hwa Ta, was to unite all of the known North American tribes under one single nation. This is due in part that the Nations split half siding with British the other half loyal to Colonists.
