The Jackie Robinson Foundation was founded by Jackie's wife, Rachel Robinson, in 1973. After Jackie Robinson passed away in 1972, Rachel Robinson wanted to honor her husband's memories and perpetuate his dreams through this non-profit organization. The Foundation's purpose is to provide higher education opportunities and leadership skills to needy African-American students.

Yes, i think he did. his act of being the first black baseball player in history made people think, yes, blacks really can play sports, which led to, they can have jobs, which led to blacks are just the same as white people. Jackie Robinson was a great role model for everyone, he said that anyone can do anything, and he did just that.

He broke the so-called baseball color line in 1947 when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers. There were no black professional baseball players in the league at the time. He was the Rookie of the Year and was the first player to take this honor. Two years later, he was the league's MVP. He continued to lead by example after retiring from baseball, and he was active in business and in politics. He was given a number of awards of recognition, both in his life and after his death. When they got to California, they lived with his mother's brother, Burton. Before they arrived at California, his mother had made arrangements to find other living conditions because Burton's house would be over-crowded, so Jackie's mother took a job washing and ironing clothes. There was not enough money from her job though, so she went to welfare for help. Welfare added to her salary which barely made enough to keep them alive. The family, at times, did not have enough food to eat, and his mother would bring home scraps from her job to feed them. From then on, all the white people in the neighborhood signed a petition to get them thrown out of the neighborhood.
