Are jalapenos bad for DOGS?

Yes it is bad for the immune system but also you can take it as advantage if you want your dog to keep away from some stuff by using chilli powder repellent. Capsaicin, the chemical that puts the spice in chili peppers, is irritating to a dog's sensitive nose. Because of this, most dogs will avoid anything that smells like a chili pepper. You can rub or sprinkle cayenne powder and dried chili powder directly on objects and areas where dogs are unwanted. You can also mix it with water for a spray solution that will repel dogs.

What is hotter a Jalapeno cayenne scotch bonnet Anaheim?

The Scotch Bonnet is much, much hotter than the Serrano. Serranos tend to be hotter than jalapenos, as a comparison point, and they cap off at about 23,000 Scoville Heat Units. However, you can get some serranos that have very little heat, at least as mild as the mildest jalapeno. Although the hottest Serrano chile will feel like fire to the inexperienced, the mildest Scotch Bonnet will blow it away. Scotch Bonnets are comparable to Habanero chiles, at 150,000 to 325,000 Scoville Heat Units. They are among the hottest chile peppers commonly used although not the hottest by today's standards, since there are chile peppers at close to 1.5 million Scoville Units.

When is the best time to grow jalapenos?

If you are gardening in the Northern Hemisphere, then in general it is too late to grow them. They usually need the whole of the spring and summer growing season to develop well. Most peppers are sensitive to the cold, and will either die or not fruit in the open during autumn and winter.

In the Southern Hemisphere, you would plant them from September or October if not in a frost prone area.

Can jalapeno pepper be substituted for chili pepper?

It depends. Mpost pepperoncini are pickled. If a dish calls for pickled jalapenos, you might be able to get away with it, since both provide tartness and heat. Pepperoncinis are milder than jalapenos, though--they only score 100-500 on the Scoville heat scale, while jalapenos are a bit higher at 3,500-8,000. If you need more heat in the dish, or it calls for fresh jalapeno because you are looking for a special flavor, you might want to consider a different pepper.

How long will jalapeno stay on your hands?

All capsacains are fat-soluble. Grab some vegetable oil, olive oil, margarine, butter, peanut oil or butter, ghee, coconut oil, sesame oil, walnut oil...get it??? If you have housepets, stamp your foot and scare them out of the kitchen; they're ONE THOUSAND times more sensitive to these irritants than you are...SCOOT!!! ...and 'wash' your hands with the oil, then 'wash' the oil off with soap and water. Carefully clean off everything you touched during the 'washup' with warm soapy water. Dry your hands with paper towelling and dispose of towels completely. While you are doing all of this, don't even come NEAR your face, since you can still give yourself a huge problem just having your contaminated hands near your face. Next time you're at your pharmacy, buy some disposable gloves from them; they're about $5 for 100. Cheap insurance for 'next' time.

Life cycle of jalapeno pepper plant?

This answer comes directly from the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University:

"Sow Chile seeds 8-10 weeks before it is safe to plant in the garden. Avoid starting too early as plants may become root-bound or leggy. Use shallow flats or containers filled with a sterilized soil mix or commercial potting soil. Optimum soil temperature for Chile germination is between 80 and 90 degrees. You may need to supply bottom heat with the aid of a propagation mat. Sew seeds 1/4 of an inch deep into soil. Chile seeds take 2 to 4 weeks, depending upon soil temperature, to germinate. Some varieties, like those in the chinense species, may even take up to 5 weeks to germinate.

Seeds themseves do not require light to germinate, however once the seeds have germinated provideadequate light for seedlings. The light plants receive on a windowsill is often insufficient and may lead to leggy growth where plants are stretching for the sunlight. A bright south facing window that receives sunlight all day is usually sufficient. This will result in a more compact, healthier transplant to set out in the garden. Do not over water, especially when seeds are germinating, this may lead to damping-off, a fungal disease that causes young seedlings to die. Soil should be moist at planting time, but allowed to dry out somewhat on top before re-watering. Drain off water collected at the bottom of the planting tray so that seedlings are not sitting in the water. In order to reduce transplant shock, seedlings should be gradually conditioned to the outdoors for about a week before being set into the garden. Start off with just an hour or two of exposure to the outdoors at first, then increase time slowely until you are leaving them outdoors day and night."

I have followed these instructions exactly and received a wonderful harvest of extremely ungodly incredibly hotpeppers. Good luck, and be careful with your bounty of the hottest peppers in the world.
