Aside from them nobody else is close to there amount and Brad Rutter only won it in the tournaments he only won $55,102 playing Jeopardy. Dave Madden won $430,400 the related links list the $50,00 plus Jeopardy winners with Brad Rutter close to the bottom

You see in a tournament you don't win the money as you do in Jeopardy by risking it you win a prize that you are not gambling on losing. Jerome Vered won $250,000 for the third place in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions increasing his total to $496,602

If it is true it is because the show chose to include him. Maybe it was because he was in 5 games and a 4 time champion and they needed one more person for the tournament. Just like they chose to allow Ken Jennings only play the Final games of the Ultimate Tournament of Champions and not have to compete in the elimination matches.

In Double Jeopardy, the clue was "an escape or Steve McQueen movie" in the category where all answers used the word GET. The answer was "what is a getaway?"

For a champion there is no limit.

The Contestant who was a winner comes back until they lose. In a tournament a losing contestant can sometimes continue to play by earning a wild card spot.

A Champion is invited back to pay in Tournaments and chosen. They can lose tournaments and still come back and play in anew tournament or even be chosen for a wild card spot and continue to play in a tournament after they lost.

A champion like Ken Jennings can even have tournaments that are merely special matches created just so they are a contestant, like the Watson Match.

So Contestants can play until they lose, Champions come back based on a set of rules created by Jeopardy for an event or can just be chosen for an event.

Rarely is information available on when programs are taped or recorded and instead the information is released on when they will be aired. The Teacher's Tournament could very well have already been recorded and just not yet aired

The show only runs for 22 minutes, but it takes longer to tape the show. They still manage to do 5 shows during a day and have time for breaks and lunch. Sometimes they show pictures of all the people needed to put together a show and it's always a very large group.

They do not play final Jeopardy The lowest score still gets $1.000 and the second lowest or second place winner gets $2,000 and the one closest to zero comes back to play

Wikipedia says that it happened back during the Art Fleming network Jeopardy shows and is quoted here:

"Contestants who finish Double Jeopardy! with $0 or a negative score are not allowed to participate in the game's final round, Final Jeopardy! Instead, they leave the game and receive the third place prize, which has been $1,000 since May 16, 2002"

"On at least one Fleming-hosted episode, all three contestants finished Double Jeopardy! with $0 or less, and as a result, no Final Jeopardy! round was played that day."

Since there are 3 people on the show one view would be a one in three chance. But playing Jeopardy is not a coin toss and the probability cannot be accurately determined because of the extreme lack of information on who the contestants are. They could be playing Watson and have only a slight chance

The Jeopardy Archive claims it is only the second time that it happened in the Show's history

In the old Art Fleming Jeopardy they have ended with no contestants able to play final Jeopardy because everyone's score was zero or below. That Makes the March 16 2011 Game result of only one contestant able to play Final Jeopardy not a record or a Tie of an existing record. Jeopardy ended the network series of shows with Art Fleming in 1979. The was no Jeopardy Episode on July 1 1981 because the Alex Trebek Jeopardy syndicated program did not start until September 10 1984 see related link
