If Jesus is greater than John the Baptist why did not John join the ministry of Jesus?
John's ministry called the people of Judea to the water of the Jordan for repentance. Jesus ministry also probably baptised i.e immersed, but his ministry was wrapped up in his work in the redemption for all mankind. So the nature of their ministries were different. So the answer is regardless of the greatness of Jesus, there was no sense in John "joining" Jesus' ministry, because their purposes were different. A painter's purpose is to paint, a pianist's purpose is to play the piano. If the painter doesn't stop painting and join the pianist, that doesn't mean the pianist isn't greater. It actually gives us no information on the greatness of either. Likewise we cannot say that either ministry is greater simply because they didn't join the other. Of course no one believes Jesus is great because people joined his ministry. The greatness of Jesus cannot be determined so.
John was also called to be the forerunner of his cousin, Jesus. When Jesus began His ministry, John's was over.
John (the Baptiser) provides an answer himself in the scripture--somewhat-- when he said "He must increase and I must decrease." John 3:30
answer
He, in a way, was in Jesus's ministry. He was the forerunner who was telling people that Christ was coming to them soon. One reason he didn't do more later on is because he was put in jail and got beheaded.
Mandate of Israel:Yokanan and Yeshua, were of the same faith: the faith of Israel. Both were preachers of Judaism. Yeshua did not created a separate ministry, congregation, faith, nor religion. Judaism was and is the Faith of all the annointed Kings, High Priests and Chief Prophets of Israel. Yeshua is the promised Annointed One of Israel, the Maschiach (Christ). Yeshua, therefore, belongs to Israel and not to the church or any gentile cult. Yokanan, hence, did not have to "join" Yeshua's "minstry".Imagine Obama campaigning for platform that he believes can improve the American people. Does he have to abolish America to do that?
If another American agreeswith him in dogma, does he have to de-Americanize himself? Yeshua's mission was to redeem Israel. Yokanan agreed with him. They did not have to create their own ministry nor congregation to do that. It is here that the church disagreed with the Scriptures.
John's Message and Mission
That which is part of the whole is the whole; one ministry should reflect another as it all comes from the same Truth. John had fulfilled his message to proclaim the coming of the Lamb of God who took unto himself the sins of the world. This was the message given to John as it was placed before him, before he was born and he completed it. Jesus is Greater, but we come from the greater of the whole and hopefully one day to return to it as John did.
Yes John did send his followers to Jesus to find out if Jesus was the messiah.
Did John the Baptist carry a cross?
I am a Baptist because I need to be rooted and grounded in the Word of God, and I believe that the best way to interpret the Bible is to take it literally. However, I am a Independent fundamental Baptist, so I may not believe the same as Southern Baptists, though I am in the South. I am a Baptist also because I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He is the fulfillment of all of the Old Testament prophecies. I am a Baptist because I feel that Baptist churches, Southern Baptist churches specifically, stand strong by the truth of the Bible. The Bible is God's Word and if we don't follow it, then aren't we acting like we don't believe it? We can't pick and choose what parts of the Bible we want to follow. I haven't found yet a doctrinal statement in Southern Baptist beliefs that is not supported by the Bible.
Was John the Baptist associated with Essenes?
Did King Herod behead the apostle John or John the Baptist?
The historical account of the execution of John the Baptist differs in time, place and context, but there is agreement that John's execution did occur on the orders of Herod Antipas and because of John's criticism of Herod's marriage. The wedding took place in 34 CE and John was executed in 35 or 36 CE in Macherus, out of fear that he was stirring the Jews up for rebellion. We do not know whether the Baptist was executed by beheading or by other means. The relevant text from Book 18 of Antiquities of the Jews by the first-century historian, Josephus: "Now many people came in crowds to him, for they were greatly moved by his words. Herod, who feared that the great influence John had over the masses might put them into his power and enable him to raise a rebellion (for they seemed ready to do anything he should advise), thought it best to put him to death. In this way, he might prevent any mischief John might cause, and not bring himself into difficulties by sparing a man who might make him repent of it when it would be too late. Accordingly John was sent as a prisoner, out of Herod's suspicious temper, to Macherus, the castle I already mentioned, and was put to death."
Is it true that John the Baptist was the advocate whom jesus promised to send to help the apostles?
No. John the baptist came before Jesus, calling people to repent because some one greater (Jesus) was coming.

Did John the Baptist called himself a voice?
No, it was Isaiah in chapter 40 v 3 when he made mention of John as "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God". Of course not all is recorded in scripture, so it is possible that John may have referred to himself as being the voice of Him who sent me. It would surprise this writer if John did not utter such similar words. No doubt there were many who would have asked who he was. What natural answer could he give when it was his responsibility to declare the coming of Christ.
The bible does not say why, but one thing is clear from the bible, John and Jesus were cousins. As Mary and Johns mother Elizabeth were cousins.
What day was St John the Baptist born?
We have no real way of knowing when John the Baptist was born, but we have some information on when he died.
Luke tells us that John the Baptist commenced his mission in 28-29 CE (AD), while the Gospels all say that he was executed by Herod Antipas sometime before the crucifixion of Jesus. According to the Jewish historian, Josephus, Herod Antipas had John the Baptist killed because he disapproved of Antipas' marriage to his own brother's wife, who divorced her husband in order to marry Herod Antipas. The marriage must have taken place after 34 CE and Josephus' account of John's execution seems to place in the year 36.
What was the family of John the Baptist?
According to Luke's Gospel, Zacarias was the father of John the Baptist, and his mother was Elizabeth, a cousin of Mary, mother of Jesus. On this account, John was a distant cousin to Jesus. On the other hand, Uta Ranke-Heinemann (Putting Away Childish Things) suggests that Elizabeth was not a real person and that the author of Luke created the story of John's birth.
We can look at the evidence to see which of those views is most likely to be correct. All four New Testament gospels were originally anonymous, so we do not really know who wrote Luke's Gospel. It is known as a 'synoptic' gospel because when laid alongside Mark's Gospel (and Matthew's) and read synoptically ('with the same eye') in the original Greek language, it can be established that Luke was based on Mark. The 'Missing Block' demonstrates that where Luke's source was incomplete, he was unable to fill the gap with information from any other source or inspiration. Other evidence shows that Luke was written no earlier than the 90s of the first century.
What this means is that the author of Luke could not have known anything about the life of Jesus other than what he read in Mark, yet he confidently reported private family events that occurred at least a hundred years before the time of writing, providing the only gospel account of the birth of John the Baptist. Ranke-Heinemann would seem to have good grounds for assuming that Luke's story of the birth of John the Baptist was not really true, in which case we know nothing about his family.
A:
Although the gospel accounts tell us that John the Baptist was beheaded in Galilee, with Herod Antipas reluctant to order his death, the first-century Jewish historian Josephus says that he was actually executed in faraway Macherus on the direct orders of Herod, who feared that John could lead an insurrection. John the Baptist would have been buried in an anonymous grave by an unknown labourer under the command of Herod's soldiers.
Why was John in prison when he was beheaded?
The Jewish historian, Josephus, tells us that John the Baptist was imprisoned and executed because he publicly objected to Herod Antipas marrying his brother's former wife, Herodias. The marriage took place in 34 CE and John seems to have been executed about 36 CE.
