Well he died of complications caused by stomach cancer 11 years after having been diagnosed with lung cancer and having a lung removed so I would say yes. Of course he was 72 when he died so given all that I would say he probably enjoyed pretty good health overall.

There was a recreation of the Alamo and a small version of the town of San Antonio built on the Happy Shahan Ranch whish is about 9 miles north of Bracketsville Texas on the road that goes to another town called Rock Springs. There is no cat featured in "The Shootist", John Waynes last movie. You may be thinking of General Sterling Price, the cat from "True Grit" and the sequel "Rooster Cogburn"

There are several reasons. At the time his first four children were born large families were the norm. Only in retrospect does it seem like too large of a family. His wife at the time was a devout Catholic and birth control was out of the question.
