Lister was created Baronet in 1883 and raised to the peerage as Baron Lister of Lyme Regis in 1887.
How did joseph lister invent listerine?
The main thing Lister used was simple sanitation. Things like hand washing and clean clothes were a pretty radical idea, and Lister actually caught some flack over it. At the time, a bloody apron was a sign of experience in a surgeon. Things like bacteria were rather laughable. It was believed infections were caused by miasmas, and maggots spontaneously formed. Lister was also a forerunner in antiseptics. He used carbolic acid as a disinfectant, and developed other antibacterial solutions.

In 1879 Listerine mouthwash was named after him for his work in antisepsis. Also named in his honour is the bacterial genus Listeria, typified by the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Lister

Pasteur showed that microbes could cause food to rot, even in the absence of air. Lister speculated that these same microbes led to infection in human wounds, and that killing these microbes prior to and during surgery would reduce such infections. His tests showed that he was correct, and he published his results in 1867.
Joseph Lister's full name was "Joseph Lister." Plain and simple, he had no middle name. In 1883 he awarded a baronetcy for his work, and thus could be addressed as, "Sir Joseph Lister Bt." In 1902 he also received an Order of Merit and ceremonial honor as part of the Privy Council, thus making his name as "Sir Joseph Lister, Bt OM, PC."
