Raju Gavali is a Senior Coach at All India Shito Ryu Karate do Federation.
Typically in a Kata, which is Japanese, you will start standing straight up and then you will open your toes making a v shape. in the v shape your heels will be touching each other. After that you will move your hands from your side to the top of your thighs. Finally you will bow, when you come up from your bow(don't go too far down) you come back up to your original position.
After the bow your right foot will step out to make you stand shoulder width apart and you will then back a circular motion with both arms going all the way above your head to your fist closed and out in front of your hip. You will then say the name of your Kata. There are many names some of the names that I can think of on the top of my head is (please excuse my spelling) Takiyoku, Heion Sho Don, Heion Ni Dan, Heion San Dan, Heion Go Dan, Heion Yon Dan, Teki, Basi Di, Basi Sho, Un Su, and Ro Hai. Then you will finally start your Kate strikes)
There are many more than 15 karate katas. Each style has their own set of katas and some do not overlap.
In my style there are 20:
5 Kihon Kata
5 Pinan Kata
3 Bassai Kata
3 Naihanchi Kata
2 Kusanku Kata
Chinto
Gojushiho

Which karate style is older Shorin Ryu or Goju Ryu?
It is pretty hard to say one is older that another considering they all have the same origins. They split out into separate styles during the last century. My reference shows that the first Goju break out started in 1937. Shorin Ryu shows a few years later in 1940. There are other sub-branches of both over the following few years.

If you are referring to American Kempo, it is a martial art that has been modified for American desires rather than a traditional martial art.

If you hit someone hard enough.
If you kick someone in the lower-mid back with enough force, that can be fatal, as would be to kick someone in the back of the neck. Any blow, whether a kick or a punch, could be fatal. A heavy kick in the chest can literally stop the heart. And strong kick in the area of the spine or neck can snap bones and severe the spinal cord. They can cause blood clots which can go to the heart and kill a person. They can cause heavy bruising, which can lead to many different problems, some of which can be fatal.
