The Magna Carta's original purpose was a group of English feudal barons' effort to check the power of King John I. It was the first document that was forced on an English King, and laid the groundwork for English Constitutional Law.
The Magna Carta was document signed by English barons and the King John in 1215. This was a 'charter of liberties' granting the barons and the peoplse some 'rights'.
