Mount Etna is in ITALY. More specifically on the eastern side Italian island of Sicily, facing the Strait of Messina (Part of the Mediterranean Sea).
More or less in a northern line are the island volcanoes of Lipari and Stromboli, and then Vesuvius , on the mainland of Iraly , near Naples.
The 1992 eruption of Mount Etna did not result in any direct casualties. The eruption primarily caused damage to property and infrastructure in the surrounding areas, but there were no reported deaths.
Yes, there were multiple eyewitness accounts of the Mount Etna eruption. Eyewitnesses, including tourists and local residents, reported seeing a large column of ash and smoke rising from the volcano, along with lava flowing down its slopes. Some captured photos and videos of the eruption, which were widely shared on social media and news outlets.
Not sure yet- but we are about to try it in a Lancia Ypsilon in feb so will let you know when (or if) I get back....
That would be Italy.
Mount Etna erupted on December 14, 1991
*I wrote this December 2, 2010
On the island of Sicily, the city of Catania is adjacent to Mount Etna, only about 12 miles (19 km) from the summit. The population is estimated at 313,000 in the city proper, and about 1.1 million residents in the metropolitan area, which could be impacted by a large eruption as occurred in 1669. In that event, the city wall of Catania diverted much of the lava flow into the sea, and casualties were minimal in the city. Earthquakes in the region have been much more damaging than eruptions.
kenans and matty are freaks :D x
Mount Etna last erupted on july 30 2011
20,00 people were killed. 3,000 of these people were killed by the noxious fumes the volcano produced. As well as that, 14 towns and villages were destroyed and 27,000 people were left homeless.
This was because part of the northward-moving African Plate is subducting beneath the Eurasian Plate. Trapped lava forms bubbles of gas as it gets near the surface. Pressure is released by coming to the surface. It bursts out as lava. Then layers build up to form the cone shape. There you go!
