The official Nepalese name for Mount Everest is Sagarmatha which means 'Mother of the Universe'

The official Tibetan name for Mount Everest is Qomolangma or Chomolungma which means 'Goddess Mother of the World'

Around 300 - 400 people make it to the summit of Mount Everest every year if the conditions are right for climbing. Many more try but fail for different reasons.

The three formations, or units, which make up the geology of Mount Everest are divided into sections. Geologists have named these, from the bottom to the summit respectively, the Rongbuk Formation, the North Col Formation and the Qomolangma Formation. These sections, or units, are divided by a low-angle fault, or a 'detachment', each one being forced over the next to form a, sort of, zigzag pattern.

A climber carries an oxygen cylinder on their back because it helps him/her to breathe easier. On high altitude mountains like Mount Everest the air is so thin it makes it very hard for anyone to breathe without extra oxygen from a cylinder.

George Mallory was a British schoolteacher who was born in 1886.

It’s believed that Mallory died from a bad fall. His body is still relatively well preserved, considering his body has been lying there for over 90 years.

A naturally gifted mountain climber, he often climbed in the Alps and Wales. In 1921 and 1922, he was part of two of the first major expeditions to climb Everest.

The first one in 1921 was more to map out the mountain and the second expedition a year later came to an end after an avalanche killed seven people on Mallory’s team.

In 1924, Mallory was chosen for a third expedition. Just before he was about to set off, Mallory was asked why would anyone want to climb Everest andhe famously replied, “Because it’s there.”

On June 6, Mallory and another mountain climber named Andrew Irvine started their ascent and by June 8th, they had reached an altitude of 26,800 feet (the highest peak of Everest is 29,029 ft). They set off on the morning of June 8 to the summit and that was the last time that anyone saw themalive.

It’s unclear if Mallory and/or Irvine reached the peak. Mallory’s body was found in 1975 by Chinese climbers at 26,760 feet, but Irvine’s body was never found.

Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest on the 29th May 1953

It is said the Mount Everest is not a technical mountain to climb but you will still need a good knowledge of mountain climbing. There is a lot of training needed if you wanted to climb a high mountain. Have a look at the link.

Endmug Hillary, and Tenzing Noragy buried Tenzing's first wife on the top of Everest. But It wasnt that she was buried ON the mountain.. He was in tenure of Pakistan and she died while he was there, not necessarily on Mt. Everest.

The coldest month on Mount Everest is January and the average temperature on the summit can be anything between -30 Celsius and -60 Celsius. The warmest month is July and the average temperature for the summit is -19 Celsius. There is no point during the year that the temperature on the summit rises above freezing. During the dead of winter which is November to February, the summit winds are at hurricane force and can reach more than 175 mph.

It is impossible to say how many avalanches have fallen on Mount Everest. An avalanche can happen at any moment during the day or night and many are not seen.

The temperature at the summit never rises above freezing, averaging -32F (-36C) in winter and -2F (-19C) in summer
