There are expeditions to climb Mount Everest every year during April/May when it is the climbing season.

No it is not the oldest mountain. The oldest mountains in the world are the Wichita Mountains. They are located in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The mountains are a northwest-southeast trending series of rocky promontories, many capped by 540 million-year old granite. These were exposed and rounded by weathering during the Permian Period.

The following climbers were part of the first Mount Everest expedition in 1921, they all had a role on Mount Everest but none of them reached the summit.

Poorna Malavath from India became the youngest female to stand on the summit of Mount Everest at the age of 13 years and 11 months old, she did so on the 25th May 2014.

The youngest male to reach the summit of Mount Everest is Jordon Romero from USA, he was just 13 years old when he stood on the top of the world on the 22nd May 2010.

Mount Everest has two seasons to allow climbers to try and reach it's summit. The best time to climb the worlds heighest mountain would be during April and May before the monsoon arrives which will then make it near impossible to climb or survive on the mountain, and during September and October, although hardly anyone climbs the mountain then due to the severe cold.

Edmund Hillary didn't say anything while on the summit of Mount Everest, it was while approaching the high camp on the way back down he saw his climbing friend George Lowe and said to him:

"Well, George, we knocked the bastard off."

Tom Whittaker from USA became the first disabled/handicapped (has an artificial leg) person to reach the summit of Mount Everest on the 27th May 1998.

The youngest person is American teenager Jordan Romero age 13 who reached the summit of Mount Everest in 2010.

The oldest person is Min Bahadur Sherchan age 76 from Nepal who reached the summit of Mount Everest in 2008.

Mt Everest is the highest mountain in the world, Mt Fuji is only the highest in Japan, and is less than half as high (its topographic height is closer to that of Everest, which rises from a high plateau).

life on Everest is harsh so it is hard for animals to survive. the gov there has started a program called sherpas adapting the wild-life. under this program the sherpas take a census every month counting all the wild-life on the mountain. they then take the donations from the people living at the abase of Everest. people donate long sleeved thermals which the sherpa then wrap the animal life with.

Mount Everest is such a famous landmark because standing at 8,848m high it is the worlds highest mountain. Most people would have heard about Mount Everest at school or read about it from books.

Dawson Stelfox was 35 when he reached the summit of Mount Everest on the 7th October 1993.

You will need a tent to sleep in. You climb Mount Everest in stages and each night you sleep in a tent then in the morning you carry on until you reach the next camp site.

The higher you climb the less oxygen there is. At the summit of Mount Everest there is approximately 33% of the oxygen that is available at sea level. That is why climbers use bottled oxygen on Mount Everest and other high altitude mountains to help them breathe more easily.

Nazir Ahmed was the first Pakistani to climb mount Everest.

The distance as the crow flys between Mount Everest and K2 is around 817 miles.

The Mount Everest Committee was a body formed by the Alpine Club and the Royal Geographical Society to co-ordinate and finance the 1921 British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition to Mount Everest and all subsequent British expeditions to climb the mountain until 1947. It was then renamed the Joint Himalayan Committee; this latter committee organized and financed the successful first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953.

Some people hope the first two men to climb Mount Everest in 1924 were George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, but nobody really knows if they made it to the summit or not.
