The Indian tectonic plate has been in a violent collision with the Asian tectonic plate for millions of years which has forced giant chunks of land upward, hence the Himalayas and Mt. Everest, which is still growing taller.

The climate of the Great Smoky Mountains is humid continental, though many of the lower elevations have a subtropical highland climate. Summers are typically short and relatively cool; in the higher elevations highs in summer are only in the 75 - 80*F (24 - 27*C) range in Boone, North Carolina, while nights cool down into the 50s (around 10 - 15*C.) However, in lower elevations summers tend to be rather hot and humid; highs may breech 90*F (32*C) in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, while nights drop to only the upper 60s and low 70s (21*C); however, highs of 100*F (38*C) and above are extremely rare in the mountain range because of very high elevation. Winters are long, cold, and snowy, with high elevations having highs in the low 40s and high 30s (4*C) at Boone and the upper 40s (around 9*C) in Gatlinburg. Lows almost always drop below freezing; as they can average in the teens (-11*C to -7*C) in Boone and can sometimes fall into the single digits (-18*C to -13*C) and, occasionally, below 0*F (-18*C.)

Precipitation and snow are spread widely throughout the year, with a marked dry season in the winter. Snowfall can vary widely, from flurries to over 120 inches (300 cms) during a major blizzard.

Canada has a great many mountain ranges from east to west and north to south. There are probably tens of thousands of mountains in Canada, the second biggest country in the world (the biggest is Russia).

North shore has what some text books would technically classify as a mountain (1000 ft or more difference in elevation between base and peak). But compared to what you can see even out east in the Appleacheans I would have to say no. No Minnesota does not have any mountains.

pretty meager in terms of mountains if you ask me. But that's not to say the North Shore isn't worth a visit. It's quite something to see all the coastal/midwest communities.

There has been around 280 people die on Mount Everest while trying to reach or return from the highest summit in the world. The most famous two are George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. Many of their body’s are in view from the route used to ascend and descend from the summit.
