Who was better Cassius Clay or Joe Louis?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

LOUIS was the closest thing to the "perfect fighter" ever and on the other hand Ali was a Freak who possesed abnormal speed and grace for a heavyweight...I think Louis would win as he was solid defensivly and would destroy ali if given half the chance ...Peolple will say ali wouldn't give joe the chance to unleash his devastating attacks.I think he would as ali was un-orthodox and did give fighters like foreman frazier norton and even Henry cooper the oppurtunities to really hurt him...none of which were anywhere near the calibre of joe Louis.Louis would cut off the ring and capitalise on Ali's weakenesess' especialy defending a solid left jab {which joe had}...LOUIS WOULD WIN

I think Ali is way to fast for Louis but Louis was known as bomber so I think it could be a draw

Who won the match between muhammad ali and joe frazier?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can't actually tell, because Louis comes from a different era of boxing, so he boxed under different rules and had different know-how in training and boxing and another style than Muhammad. Muhammad however would cause Louis trouble with his footwork(Louis had always bad footwork), his unique speed, that he could stand a punch(Ali could take the punches of George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston and Earnie Shavers, the hardest punching boxers ever in the ring) and his stamina. Louis would cause Ali trouble with his great defense(probably the best in heavyweight boxing history), his hard punching(Louis KO'd 6 inches taller Buddy Bear and Primo Carnera), his great flexibility and that he could also take a punch(Louis could stand the punches of Max Baer who hit so hard that he killed once someone in the ring!). It is hard to say who would have won a fight, all I can say is that I don't see Louis punching Ali out or Ali Punching Louis out. The fight would end with a draw, unanimous decision or split decision. At the end it depends on your favour who you would see as the winner. I, however, think that Muhammad Ali is overrated(He sure was great, but never the greatest. He won only over Sonny Liston because Liston was old and way over the hill, Frazier beat him once and I think that also "The Thrilla in Manila" goes to Frazier, when there haven't been Frazier's trainer stopping the fight. And he won only against Foreman with using the rope-a-dope technique, which was more a trap and had nothing to do with boxing, with Foreman boxing himself out) and that Louis proved enough how great he was by beating every famous heavyweight boxer of his time and staying champ for 12 years.

Here is a list of Boxers that would cause Muhammad Ali serious trouble prime for prime:

1. Joe Louis

2. Rocky Marciano (had even a better stamina than Ali)

3. Mike Tyson (his speed would cause Ali trouble)

4. Joe Frazier (proved in 1971)

5. George Foreman (Ali without "rope-a-dope")

6. a young Sonny Liston

7. a young Larry Holmes

8. Jack Johnson (with the rules of 1910, his defense would cause Ali trouble)

Yes- 2 boys 7duaghters

Muhammad Ali has been married four times and has seven daughters and two sons. Ali met his first wife, cocktail waitress Sonji Roi, approximately one month before they married on August 14, 1964. Roi's objections to certain Muslim customs in regard to dress for women contributed to the breakup of their marriage. They divorced on January 10, 1966. On August 17, 1967, Ali (aged 35) married 17-year old Belinda Boyd. After the wedding, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Khalilah Ali, though she was still called Belinda by old friends and family. They had four children: Maryum (b. 1968), Jamillah and Liban (b. 1970), and Muhammad Ali Jr. (b. 1972). However, Ali began an affair with a young woman named Veronica Porsche in 1975. By the summer of 1977, Ali's second marriage was over and he had married Veronica. At the time of their marriage, they had a baby girl, Hana, and Veronica was pregnant with their second child. Their second daughter, Laila, was born in December of 1977. By 1986, Ali and Veronica were divorced. On November 19, 1986, Ali married Yolanda Ali. They had been friends since 1964 in Louisville. Their mothers were close friends, although Lonnie has publicly denied the popular notion that Muhammad Ali was once her babysitter. They have one adopted son, Asaad. Ali has two other daughters, Miya and Khaliah, from extramarital relationships.

Why is Joe Frazier angry with Muhammad Ali?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ali had a flair for showmanship and used to tease his opponents. Sometimes though, he went a little far. Joe was a stand up guy and wasn't used to these types of taunts and couldn't see the reason for it. It did help build the gate though, and they both made lots of money. They did make up and forgive each other, and I think it was the press that made the grudge more than it was. Joe and Ali were great champions, there kind is no longer found in the boxing game.

Did Muhammad Ali Cheat in some fights?

User Avatar

Asked by ManinUndertaker

Yes he did. with Henry Cooper, Ali was dropped and when he went back to his corner, they saw that he wasnt going to be able to make it another round, so they ripped his glove open while the referee wasnt looking, and then had to make everyone wait minutes for a new glove to be fetched, thus giving Ali time to get back to his senses.

With Frazier(Their third fight), Ali had deflated his glove and if you look closely, you can see his right glove deflated all the way (roughly round 7 and so on), and his left glove deflated a little. People say that this was the kind of glove that he was using that when the sweat gets in there then it deflates, but frazier, who was sweating just as much as they where fighting in 110-120 degree weather, was using the same type of gloves, which did not deflate at all.

In 1954 in Louisville, Kentucky, 12-year-old Cassius Marcellus Clay's bike was stolen while he and a friend were at the Columbia Auditorium. Young Cassius found a cop in a gym, Joe Martin, and boiling with youthful rage, told Martin he was going to "whup" whoever stole his bike. Martin admonished, "You better learn to box first." Within weeks, 89-pound Cassius had his first bout-his first win. For the next 27 years, Cassius would be in that ring. Even in his youth, he had dreams of being heavyweight champion of the world.
