What is the diet of a person with mumps?
§ A diet for mumps should ideally include plenty of water, fruit juices, soups and broths. However, citrus fruits tend to aggravate symptoms of mumps. It is thus best to avoid citrus fruits if you are suffering from mumps.
§ Moreover, citrus fruits contribute to the production of acidity and should thus be excluded from a mumps healing diet. However, vitamin C is a necessary component for a mumps diet and citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C. You should therefore include foods like cantaloupes and mangoes to compensate for vitamin C in a mumps healing diet. The fluid diet should be followed with a soft diet that is easy to chew and swallow.
Swelling and throat irritation are mumps symptoms that take some time to recede. Thus, a soft diet should be maintained for a few days after a fluid diet. A soft diet includes foods like rice porridge and runny oatmeal. Such foods are easy to swallow and easy to digest. Avoid meat in a mumps healing diet as this is very difficult to digest and swallow. You should also avoid processed foods in a diet for treating mumps as such foods are not only difficult to digest, but are filled with additives that may be potentially harmful at time when your immunity is compromised.
In addition, oily and fatty foods tend to aggravate mumps symptoms. Avoid all oily foods while caring for mumps symptoms. Certain spices are very beneficial in a mumps treatment diet. Spices like black pepper help alleviate symptoms of mumps. Ginger and garlic are also very effective in the treatment of mumps. Include generous quantities of garlic and ginger in a mumps healing diet.
What research has been done on the connection between mumps vaccine and autism?
The current status of the MMR/Autism link is disputed. New beliefs are appearing that bufotenin may be responsible for autism. At the moment, there is little evidence to show that MMR may be linked with autism.
More recently, several clinical studies have show no statistical link between any vaccine and the incidence of autism. The MMR does not cause, nor is a contributing factor to, autism.
In addition, the bufotenin theory is at this point, just a theory. It is based on the higher-than-normal levels of bufotenin detected in some autistic people, but this has not been thoroughly studied, nor has it been shown this is prevalent in the general autistic population. As of now, we really don't know much about autism, certainly nothing definitive about causes or the mechanisms by which it works.
Can mumps infect a person twice?
generally no, as if a healthy body is exposed to a virus, it will create an antibody, which will prevent the body from catching it again. But in some cases you can get it twice.
Is the mumps an active or hidden virus?
Active. It will go directly to find a host cell and begin the steps of the lytic cycle to cause the host's cell to replicate itself (see the related questions for more about the lytic cycle). It does not stay "dormant" inside you to manifest symptoms later, an infection will produce symptoms right away if you are infected. Then once new viruses are made in the host cell, they will burst out and infect more cells and potentially more people.
Can you get the mumps if your tonsils were removed?
Well I had my tonsils burnt out in hospital and the doctor said I can't get tonsilitus again because I don't have tonsils! (If you're going to get your tonsils taken out any time in the future, get them out now because adult tonsilitus is one of the worst pains you can have. You'll cry 24/7 wishing it didn't hurt and every hour you take tons of medicine. The worst bit is you don't get to have as much ice cream as you want like the old days. :'( Now you have to have rough, hard things e.g. crisps. Also I didn't mean to get carried away or scare you.)
Why does a doctor not prescribe antibiotics if you have mumps?
Antibiotics are prescribed to treat bacterial infections. Mumps aren't caused by bacteria. Once someone has mumps, he/she is then naturally immune to it.

After few days another parotid gland may get affected and again the fever comes back. The story may repeat for the sub-mandibular salivary glands. At times your pancreas may be affected and testicles in the males. Nothing but assurance on the part of physician works.
