What is the purpose of the arm?

In traditional engines (not overhead cam), the camshaft pushes lifters UP. Lifters push the pushrods UP, but the valves need to be pushed DOWN... so the rocker arm "rocks" on a shaft that pushes one side down when the other side goes up.

It's not a difficult job. Rocker arms aren't doing the most stressful job in the engine, but they do eventually wear out.

Part of the problem is, Engineers attempt to make the rocker arms s light as possible so they can move back when the camshaft/lifter/push rod relaxes. The weight of the valve train (all those components PLUS the weight of the valves) tend to contribute to valve "float", that's when the spring can't push that mass of material back fast enough when the engine is operating at high RPM.

Since the valve train has deliberately been kept "lightweight", they tend to wear. That's one of the reasons for an overhead cam in an engine. You do away with the push rod and rocker.

What can cause muscle weakness without affecting the nervous system?

Lack of sleep, hydration, and proper nutrition could do this. Many people will feel sluggish and their muscles may feel heavy causes them to feel weaker or lazy. Hydration and nutrtion are equally important because simply, if the muscles do not have necessary energy to move, you may experience muscle fatigue. That's why all of the above are important.

What are the muscles cells called?

Muscle cells are called muscle fibers or myocytes. They are specialized cells that make up the three types of muscle tissue: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle. Skeletal muscle fibers are long and striated, cardiac muscle cells are branched and striated, while smooth muscle cells are non-striated and spindle-shaped. Each type of muscle cell has distinct functions suited to its specific location and role in the body.

When you throw a punch does your biceip contract or relax?

The bicep relaxes during the throw (the outwards motion) and the tricep contracts.

MORE: If the arm/shoulder moves backwards in the lead up to the throw then the bicep might contract during that backwards motion (in anticipation of the throw). This can give greater force to the punch but might "telegraph" the punch to the target. However the bicep is relaxed during the actual throw - it is the tricep that contracts to straighten the elbow joint.
