The last British Shilling was minted in 1966.

The last New Zealand Shilling was minted in 1965.

There were 800,000 threepence coins produced for New Zealand in 1950. The coin (KM#15) is made of copper-nickel, weighs 1.4 grams, and measures 16.3mm in diameter. It has a portrait of King George VI on the obverse and a pair of crossed patu (clubs used by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand) on the reverse. The coin is worth about US$1.00 in Fine condition; about US$7.50 in Very Fine condition; about US$50.00 in Extremely Fine condition; about US$100.00 in Uncirculated condition; about US$200.00 in Brilliant Uncirculated condition; and about US$300.00 in Proof condition.

The most valuable New Zealand Halfcrown coins in absolute mint uncirculated condition are -

1944 - $2,000 NZD

1935 - $1,500 NZD

1933 - $950 NZD

1934 - $950 NZD

But any mint uncirculated Halfcrown from 1933 to 1961 is likely to get $100 NZD or more.

Circulated Halfcrowns in average condition from 1933 to 1946 are likely to get anything from $15 to $30 NZD.

I am not sure that it was a matter of being so popular, it more likely simply because of the amount of tourism between Australia and New Zealand and the fact that you would always find the currency of one in the country of the other.

The signature on New Zealands banknotes is that of the Chief Cashier or Governor.

In terms of minted as general currency, the Waitangi Crown of 1935 is definitely one of the rarest. Only 1128 of these were minted, and in good condition can be worth in excess of 7000 New Zealand dollars.

A New Zealand 2005 Two Dollar coin, uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $5 NZD.

There were 5 million minted.

These coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth Two Dollars.

New Zealand only issued a Twenty Dollar coin in 1995 and 1997.

A New Zealand 2007 bronze finish 10 cent coin (Tuatara Commemorative), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $10 NZD.

The last New Zealand Shilling containing any silver at all, was minted in 1946. From 1947 onwards, all New Zealand Shillings were made from a copper-nickel alloy.

The last New Zealand Shilling was minted in 1965. The 10 cent coins that replaced them had ONE SHILLING marked on them in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

It is fairly easy. Apart from the dimensions, they are nothing alike.

The British coin has GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX on the front.

The New Zealand coin has GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR on the front.

British coins do not have the country name on them.

No country could afford to make gold Threepences. Most countries using the Threepence ceased to make them from silver between the late 1940's and the 1960's due to the high cost of silver.

Some coins may have developed tarnishing on the surface giving them a pale gold appearance.
