The Nintendo Switch is the new console from Nintendo. It sounds like a really good mix between powerful home console and portable handheld system. We don't know everything about it yet (as of October 2016), because it isn't out until March 2017, but here are some things that we do know:
- The console uses cartridges and not discs. This is an interesting move by Nintendo, and there are good and bad things about this. I like cartridges better myself, because they don't seem to get scratched up or accidentally put in a movie case instead, but it is unfortunate that you won't be able to play the discs from older Nintendo consoles. On the other hand, we might be able to play all the older games that you bought digitally through the Nintendo store.
- The console has a dock that you can hook up to your TV. If there is compatibility with 3DS games (which has not been determined), or even if you can just download the new Sun or Moon onto it, that means that we can play a real main series Pokemon game on the big screen for the first time since XD. That is huge.
- Switch has different configurations depending on what you are doing. You can use the detachable controllers to make a two-handed controller, to use as one-handed controllers, or with the screen as a handheld.
- Switch will support Amiibo figures, which means games like LEGO Dimensions will likely work on it.
Will your eShop purchases carry over to the Nintendo Switch?
Yes. Although the Switch won't be backwards compatible to older consoles, your digital items should work just fine.
When will the Nintendo Switch be released?
The Nintendo Switch will be released on March 3rd 2017. Its specific launch date will be officially revealed in a livestream presentation on January 12, 2017.

It would have been a bit of a blow to Nintendo, but Nintendo is huge, it doesn't operate on a narrow line of credit and debt, it has money in the bank and a load of valuable IP. They would have had to think long and hard about their next steps. Luckily by all accounts the Switch is a success.

Yes, they are. The NX was the name while it was being developed, and what the press called it when publishing rumors. Now that it has officially been announced, we know the real name, which is the Nintendo Switch.

You can't play Nintendo Switch games on a PC, you need a Nintendo Switch.

Does the size of your character matter in Mario Kart 8?
The size of the Mario Kart 8 character matters depending on your level of interest in speed. Smaller characters such as Baby Mario (and other Babies) and Lakitu are lighter and can go faster, but large characters such as Bowser can be slower but more evenly weighted and better for turning. However, the 2 heaviest characters are Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach. Hope this answers your question.
How is the Nintendo Switch Lite different from the original Switch?
The primary difference between the Nintendo Switch Lite and the original Switch is that the Switch Lite is designed strictly for portable play.
It cannot be docked or hooked up to an external screen, and its controls are a permanent part of the device (as opposed to the original Switch’s detachable Joy-Con controls). The new console also has a direction pad (or D-pad) incorporated into the left side of its face. As such, it’s more similar to traditional portable systems like the Nintendo DS in both appearance and functionality.
However, the Switch Lite will be able to play most of the same games as the original Switch, and it will be capable of linking with original Switch consoles to play multiplayer games, either through local wireless or online play.
At launch, the Switch Lite will not be able to play any games that do not support the original Switch’s handheld mode—if you buy a Switch Lite, be sure to check games carefully before purchasing them to make sure the console supports them. The Switch Lite will be capable of syncing with separately purchased Joy-Cons, but without them, it won’t be able to play games that rely on motion controls or multiple Joy-Cons. It may not work with some accessories designed for the original console.
The Switch Lite will be available in three colors: yellow, gray, and turquoise. It has a suggested retail price of $199.99, which is $100 less than the original Switch. While the original Switch has a 6.2-inch screen, the Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch screen, and the Switch Lite will have about 20-30 percent better battery life than the original.

Definitely Super Mario Odyssey. I’ve enjoyed the majority of Mario games, but wow did Odyssey take it to the next level (pun intended!). The hat-throwing mechanic was utilized so deeply and informed such varied environmental designs and additional mechanic choices. Plus, “Jump Up, Super Star!†is hands-down my favorite theme song to a game! The rest of the soundtrack is excellent, too, changing up the styles based on whatever location you’re visiting. All in all, Super Mario Odyssey is an extremely polished and intricate game, for both newcomers to platforming and the hardcore speedrunners out there.
Why do Nintendo Switch games stay so high in price?
The answer to this question is relatively simple: Nintendo is home to some of the most successful franchises in video game history, including Pokémon, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda. Because these IPs are owned by Nintendo, their exclusivity on Nintendo devices means that there is barely any competition in the market. If you want to play the newest Pokémon or The Legend of Zelda games, your only legal option is to buy a Switch, because those games will not be available on other platforms. Because of these factors, Nintendo tends to keep their exclusive titles at the original MSRP for long periods of time.
