Old Testament

You can discover little by reading the Old Testament casually or superficially. To really find anything useful in it, you must read in context and with cross-reference to other books of the Old Testament. If you are really serious, you need to seek guidance in publications by theologians or biblical scholars. The essential difference between a theologian and a scholar is that the role of the former is to defend religion and the role of the latter is to seek the truth in religious texts, although it is indeed possible to be both a theologian and a scholar.

By reading the Old Testament, it is possible to learn about the history of the Jewish people, as they understood it to be.

By reading the Old Testament, it is possible to discover the ways of God. If you so choose, you can also discover that the ways of God differed from author to author, even within the same book if it had multiple authors, leaving you to form a view as to the authenticity of the various accounts.

By reading the Old Testament, it is possible to discover the original meaning of passages often believed to foreshadow or prophesy the life of Jesus, and therefore arrive at an informed view as to the extent of prophecy involved.

Hosea was told to name his daughter "Lo-Ruhamah," which means "not loved" in Hebrew. This name symbolized God's upcoming judgment on the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

Sarah and Abraham's son was named Isaac. He was born to them in their old age, fulfilling God's promise to give them a child despite their advanced years. Isaac went on to become an important figure in the Abrahamic religions.

God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have many descendants and that they would be the ancestors of a great nation. He also promised them the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession for their descendants.

In the Douay-Rheims translations of the Old Testament, Gn. 19:24 "The Lord poured down on Sodom and Gomorra sulphur and fire from the Lord out of heaven."

King Solomon reigned over Isa real for 40 years.

Abraham loved Sarah because she was his wife. Abraham loved Hagar because of Ishmael. So Abraham loved both. That is why it was very difficult to choose between them if there had been no Divine intervention.

The Bible doesn't say that Ham did anything to his father but just that he saw his Noah's naked body.

Gen 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

He also made the pots and shovels and sprinkling bowls.

So Huram finished all the work he had undertaken for King Solomon in the temple of the Lord:

the two pillars;

the two bowl-shaped capitals on top of the pillars;

the two sets of network decorating the two bowl-shaped capitals on top of the pillars;

the four hundred pomegranates for the two sets of network (two rows of pomegranates for each network decorating the bowl-shaped capitals on top of the pillars);

the ten stands with their ten basins;

the Sea and the twelve bulls under it;

the pots, shovels and sprinkling bowls.

All these objects that Huram made for King Solomon for the temple of the Lord were of burnished bronze.The king had them cast in clay molds in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan.Solomon left all these things unweighed, because there were so many; the weight of the bronze was not determined.

Solomon also made all the furnishings that were in the Lord's temple:

the golden altar;

the golden table on which was the bread of the Presence;

the lampstands of pure gold (five on the right and five on the left, in front of the inner sanctuary);

the gold floral work and lamps and tongs;

the pure gold basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes and censers;

and the gold sockets for the doors of the innermost room, the Most Holy Place, and also for the doors of the main hall of the temple.

When all the work King Solomon had done for the temple of the Lord was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated-the silver and gold and the furnishings-and he placed them in the treasuries of the Lord's temple.(1 Kings 7:40-51)

One example of an evil king of Israel was King Ahab, who was known for his wickedness and idolatry. He ruled during the 9th century BCE and was married to Queen Jezebel, who also promoted idol worship in the kingdom.

In the 'Parsha' (Portion) of 'Vayislach' in Genesis ('Bereishis') after Yaacov wrestles with his brother's ('Eisau[v]') guardian angel and wins, the angel tells him his name is no longer 'Yaacov' ('Jacob' From the word 'akev' heel) but 'Yisroel' (Israel).

The Hebrew ('Loshon HaKodesh') aliteration is: ' Kee sharisah eem elohim (G-d of/ in nature) ve eem anashim (People) ve toochaul. "Because you have fought with (an angel of) G-d and with (Lavan & Eisav), and you have overcome."

In the book of Genesis in the Bible, God promised Abraham and Sarah a son, even in their old age. Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90 when Isaac was born.

The "Child of the Promise" refers to God's promise to Abraham and Sarah.

The names of Eli's sons from the Bible are Hophni and Phinehas. They served as priests in the tabernacle but were described as wicked and disobedient, leading to their downfall.

It is impossible to determine the exact value of King Solomon's temple in today's dollars as it was built over 3,000 years ago and no accurate records of its construction costs exist. Additionally, the historical and religious significance of the temple would make any such valuation subjective and speculative.

Moses' age when he saw the burning bush is not specifically mentioned in the Bible. However, traditionally it is said that Moses' life can be divided into three sections of forty years. He was forty years old when he fled from Egypt after killing an Egyptian taskmaster. He spent the next forty years in the wilderness working as a shepherd for his father-in-law Jethro, married two women and had two sons. At the end of these forty years Moses sees the burning bush so he would have been eighty years old at the time. He then receives a call from God to lead the Hebrew people out of Egypt and spends the last forty years of his life leading them in the desert. He dies at the age of 120 years and God buries him on the top of of the mountain.

Yes, the Ten Commandments are a set of moral and religious principles in the Bible that were given by God to the Israelites through Moses. They serve as a code of conduct and rules for the Israelites to follow in their relationship with God and others.

The special box used to hold the tablets of the Ten Commandments is called the Ark of the Covenant. It is a sacred chest described in the Bible as containing the two stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God. The Ark was believed to be a powerful symbol of God's presence among the Israelites.

Bible Prophets were direct communication between humans and God. Bible prophets spoke directly to God and served as mediators and told people what God said. Then when Jesus Christ was born he became the mediator and still is to this day. Jesus can take all of our sins and forgive them, he can talk to us through the Bible, and we can talk to him through prayer. Jesus takes care of our sins because he loves us, if it were not for him dying on the cross we may never be close to God. Jesus is the bridge from man to God, this was a road that was there in the Garden of Eden, but this road collapsed when humans chose Sin over God through temptation from the Devil. This separated us from God and Jesus, God's only begotten Son restored that bond between us and the Father who is in Heaven. If we believe in Jesus and trust in him and ask him for forgiveness we will go to Heaven with Jesus the Savior and God the Father.

The name "I Am" signifies God's eternal presence, faithfulness, and unchanging nature. It conveys the idea that God is the one who is and always will be, and that His promises are trustworthy and reliable.
