How do you get rid of poison ivy in your woods?
Separation of roots from stems, solarization of an area, and treatment with herbicides are ways to eliminate poison ivy. It will be important to don proper protective equipment, head to toe, when severing above-ground parts from life-sustaining liquids from the roots, spraying with appropriate Toxicodendron radicansplant-killers (amitrol, glyphosate, triclopyr, 2,4D) or weighting down small areas with sun-absorbent materials to bake the life out of the pesty plant.
Glyphosate is a herbicide that has been proven to be effective against poison ivy. Products including Roundup and KleenUp contain this herbicide. It is sprayed directly onto the leaves of the plant and is not absorbed by the soil. The leaves absorb the herbicide and carry the agent to the rest of the plant. To avoid killing desired plant life nearby, do not use too much. After a few days, you can remove the poison ivy. Remove the plant carefully and take the same precautions that you would if the plant were still alive. Although the plant is dead, the toxic oils are still present on the leaves, and one touch is all it takes to become infected with the poison.
Amitrole is a herbicide contained in two pesticide products called Amitrol-T and Weedazol. This herbicide works in the same manner as the herbicides previously mentioned. But it infiltrates the soil and prevents new growth of the plant for a certain period of time. Do not use this product around food crops or animals that graze on land that is affected by the poisonous weed.
Many other herbicides can remove poison ivy. Some of these include 2,4D, triclopyr and a mixture of 2,4D and triclopyr. These herbicides are present in products such as Weed-B-Gon, Jet Weeder, Garlon, Redeem, Brush-B-Gon, and Crossbow.

How do you remove poison ivy from clothing?
If you are trying to get it out of the ground, say its growing aside your house, your best way to kill it would be to pour gasoline on it and just let it soak into the soil, but it may kill any plants next to it. There is also some poison ivy killers, but they actually aren't as effective as gasoline.
If you are trying to get it off of your skin, there is really no way to completely just stop it. but you could try 'Ivy Dry' its a spray on liquid that you spray on the infected areas, and just leave it alone. But be aware it may burn and sting if you scratched open the boils from the poison ivy. It's also best to combine this with an anti-itch agent but if not, it works too.
Hope this helped.

The dog's owner well may have a similar reaction when they touch the dogs previously exposed body parts.
What does poison oak do to you?
The usual symptoms will be the same as any other contact dermatitis. A rash will form, often accompanied by itching. The more severe symptoms can be exhibited from a serious systemic allergic reaction instead of a simple local one. Systemic reactions can be extremely dangerous and could even result in death if untreated. These types of reactions often occur quickly but are treatable. If you are experiencing any of the following, a rash that includes most of your body, impaired breathing, swelling of the facial area, or dizziness or weakness, you should seek medical treatment immediately.
Unless you have a severe allergic reaction, poison ivy will not kill you. It's just extremely annoying and aggravating.
I've wondered about that a lot of times myself. But then I went up to my grandma's house and learned that not only do cats NOT get poison oak or poison ivy, but that other mamals don't seem to get it either. It semms to have something to do with a chemical in their fur. So, no cats do not get poison oak or poison ivy. So you have nothing to worry about.

How does poison ivy rash start out?
Typically several hours to about a day after contact with the poison ivy plant (the leaves or the vine) or oil from the plant.
Note that you can get a poison ivy rash if someone who is not sensitive touches the plant and then gets urushiol (the oil that causes a reaction in some people to poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac) on your skin. You can even get a poison ivy rash from petting your dog or cat after it has brushed up against a poison ivy plant. Also note that the vines and the leaves can contain urushiol long after the plant has died, and burning poison ivy foliage can release the urushiol into the air, potentially causing a poison ivy rash on the inside of your lungs.
If you know that you have come in contact with poison ivy but have not yet developed the rash, you may be able to prevent or reduce the rash by washing in cold water with special soap that binds to the urushiol. However, washing in warm or hot water will spread the urushiol across a larger area of skin.
Where is poison ivy most commonly foundly?
Altitudes below 4,900 feet (1,500 meters) are the places where poison ivy grows in the United States of America. The perennial is neither poisonous -- although its urushiol provokes allergic reactions in people, not wildlife -- nor an ivy. As a shrub, understory plant, or vine, the plant may be found classified as Toxicodendron orientale in east Asia, Toxicodendron radicans in North America (central and east Canada, mountainous northern Mexico, the United States east of the Rockies), and Toxicodendron rydbergii in central and western Canada and the United States (central, New England, west).
How long before a rash breakout after contact with poison ivy?
I don't know the exact scientific time limits but I can tell you from my personal experience. Personally I start to break out between 24-48 hrs and not before 24. Then it seems the rash does not fully mature until 72-96 hours. It all depends how sensitive your skin is and how much of the oil you came in contact with. Some people can break out within a few hours. But I'm pretty sure if you don't break out within 72 hours you won't break out at all. Hope that helps.
How long does the allergic reaction to poison ivy last?
Poison Ivy usually last two to three weeks. I've had it for two weeks and four days and it's clearing up now. (it's got the crusty look) Don't think it will go away in no time. Medicines and Lotions help the itch but do not speed up the healing process!
Here are some FACTS.
Poison ivy CAN'T be spread by scratching or from the puss that comes out of the rash during the healing process! - (People seem to think it can because they get break outs one day and some more the next! this is because when you come in contact with poison ivy the urushiol oils take longer to get into thicker parts of the skin then in thinner parts.)
urushiol oils can stay on clothes and tools that have come in contact with poison ivy! what ever you wore or used when you came in contact with poison ivy needs to be washed well! if you don't wash them you can risk getting more urushiol oils on your skin! (wash clothes in bleach and separate from other clothes just to be sure)
Tips
Try to avoid hot showers, since steam opens your pours it can be painful to your rashes.
Items at home that can relieve itchiness, Rubbing alcohol, White vinegar, baking soda paste, and ice packs are what i used and helped the itching allot!
benadryl before bed, helps you sleep and itching.
Don't scratch it can cause infection! you have bacteria under your finger nails!
if you are talking about the plant... well, they don't go away by themselves and even sometimes persist after you've dumped weed killer on them.
the rash can last from a few days to two and a half weeks, depending on how badly you got it. in my experience, the itch goes away shortly after the blisters start 'weeping' or leaking fluid by themselves. the rash goes away shortly after that. you may have a scar where rash was, but that goes away after a several days as well. if you didn't get it badly enough to get blisters, thank your lucky stars, you'll only have it for four maybe five days.
