The first one million people who answered the magic quill are allowed onto the site early as Beta Testers. You should have received a congratulations letter if you are a Beta Tester. You will receive your Welcome Letter any time between now and the end of September.

Pottermore is not a scam. It is a legitimate site created by J.K. Rowling and Sony.

However, several scammers are cashing in on the popularity of Harry Potter to create false sites, lure users into advanced payments (for memberships, etc.) which will go to the scammers and not to the legitimate Pottermore owners, etc.

For insider information you can keep up to date on Pottermore Insider, which is a website. This gives us key information such as Pottermore maintenance times, new features that may be added, eBook information and should hopefully tell us when the house cup will be announced closer to the date.

If you have already unlocked it, you need to wait until you absolutely positively need to buy something. The key will appear when buying something is necessary on the chapter. You can't just buy anything. So, drag the key into the keyhole (I think you worked that out when you first got it). Good Luck!

Anybody who is able to access the site now is a Beta Tester who are testing things. Your house does not limit what material you can access, everybody sees the same thing except the welcome message when your sorted into a house and your common room.
