The purpose of cycloplegia in ocular inflammation is threefold:
1. reduces ocular pain by preventing cilliary body spasm
2. helps to stabilize blood/aqueous barrier
3.reduces area of contact of peripheral iris with anterior lens surface decreasing risk of synechie and possible angle closure.
Much protein is released into the AC by way of cell and flare, this is sticky and and contributes to the lens being bound to the iris. Additionally, the person is highly photophobic, by stabilizing the iris and cilliary body, they are much more comfortable.
Relieve the symptoms of withdrawal from Prednisone?
The use of anti-inflammatory drugs can help relieve the joint and muscle aches that might occur when withdrawing from Prednisone. To reduce the side effects from Prednisone withdrawal doctors recommend tapering off the drug slowly.
Is staying on 35 ml of prednisone daily harmful?
Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid that is used to treat some inflammatory diseases and types of cancer amongst many other uses. It has significant adverse effects because it suppresses the immune system and leaves patients open to infections.
Dependence can happen if taken long term. There are many side-effects to be wary of. There are some health concerns with staying long term.
Withdrawal should be gradual and never abrupt.
Why Prednisone causes elevated wbc?
Steroid use can "hide" signs and symptoms of an infection and also prolonged use of them may cause leukocytosis (or elevated white counts). Steroids cause increased bone marrow release of mature neutrophils, movement into the circulating neutrophil pool, and decreased tissue migration. An increase in white blood cells and neutrophilia occurs 4 to 8 hours after elevation of stress hormones or steroid use and return to normal 1 to 3 days after.
How does long term corticosteroid use cause bruising?
Apparently via loss of collagen in skin, increasing fragility. This was shown in biopsies of corticosteroid related bruises - done in 1960.
Can you have alcohol while you are taking akt 4?

Will Prednisone help bursitis in the shoulder?
Yes. I had this problem about 3 years ago. Had MRI and showed to be bursitis of shoulder. My dr. prescribed a dose pack and it worked. Haven't had any problems until this week.
Your friend most likely has shingles. It is caused by the varicella (or herpes) zoster virus. Initially, it causes chickenpox. Later in life, it may reactivate and cause shingles, which presents as a rash along a single dermatome, frequently preceded by burning or lancinating pain.
The particular cocktail of medications you have asked about are fairly typical for a shingles outbreak. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug which may decrease the time of outbreak if taken before the rash occurs. Tegretol is an anti seizure medication used in this particular instance to help control the neuropathic pain associated with shingles. Prednisone can be taken to help decrease the inflammation and pain associated with shingles, although this is not a medication I have used frequently for shingles, as it may cause other side-effects and worsen diabetes.
What do you do about the uncontrollable urination?
Change of age, usually from 9-15 years old for males, if you pee uncontrollably the best way to settle it is to wear a diaper or some type of absorbent underpants of such. This problem may go on for years depending on your age. It is very common for boys (especially 12 years old) to wear diapers because of this. I know several patients of mine who wear them. I'd personally recommend pamper's underjams or Huggies goodnites to anybody who has bladder issues, these are meant kids and teens (some adults too).

You lost your Prednisone what else can you use until you see your doctor?
Answer
Nothing can replace prednisone. I suggest you go to your local A&E department or pharmacy, preferably with a previous prescription slip and tell them that you have lost your prednisone. They should provide you with emergency supplies.
Prednisone causes adrenal suppression, therefore you will stop producing your natural steroid. If you simply stop taking prednisone, then you can go into Addisonian crisis and die. This is why you MUST go to your A&E department or book an emergency appointment with your doctor. You may also be able to get emergency supplies from your pharmacy.
Can you take Prednisone indefinitely for COPD?
Some people don't have a choice with their health issues so they have to take prednisone for an extended period of time. I would not suggest taking prednisone indefinitely unless your condition is extremely bad, and that is your only option.
As a short-term medication, prednisone can be extremely beneficial for various condition. Long-term, however, it has some serious side effects including:
Bone weakness/osteoporosis
Bleeding in stomach/intestines
Diabetes
Low calcium
Thin skin
Muscle problems
Nerve disease
Enlarged liver
Seizures
Hallucination
Ulcers
Pancreatic inflammation
Blood clots

What are the symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica?
Polymyalgia Rheumatica causes severe aching in both shoulders and both hips and some times in the lower back and neck. Average age of onset is seventy. Quite often PMR happens to people who have been very active all of their lives. The pain can be so severe as to limit ability to exercise. Pain is worse in in bed at night and in the mornings or after sitting down for a while. Usually by noon, the pain lessens, but not always. This is a common experience for people with PMR. Aspirin and other NSAIDS do not have much affect on the pain. Most affective treatment seems to be a form of Cortisone -- often Prednisone -- to control symptoms. Usually the dosage can be low, perhaps 5 to 10 milligrams, but higher doses may be required. With that regimen one is able to lead a normal life, free of pain. However, taking any form of cortisone carries many possible and undesirable risks. (See listed web site for more information on side affects). This condition often resolves or disappears in a year or two. No one knows what causes PMR. It is not really arthritis, but often sufferers call it that. Doctors perform several blood tests to confirm the diagnosis. Symptoms are also indicative of the diagnosis. However, patients are usally tested for Lupus during the PMR screening process, as well as the usual arthritis blood test (again see listed websites. Mayo Clinic's web site offers details on the tests used). There can be a more serious side affect of PMR and that is Giant Cell Arteritis which can affect the heart. One should definitely be checked by their doctor if they have the symptoms of Polymyalgia Rhuematica. Here are two great references for this condition -- or two web addresses -- for anyone who wants to know more. http://www.rheumatology.org/public/factsheets/pmr_new2.asp http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/polymyalgia-rheumatica/DS00441
Will taking the prescription prednisone help to dry up fluid in the ears?
Prednisone will help to dry up fluids in the ear. It can also be used to reduce inflammation but it is not something to be taken long term.

A canker sore is a painful, open sore in the mouth. Canker sores are white or yellow and surrounded by a bright red area. They are benign (not cancer).

Alternative NamesAphthous ulcer; Ulcer - aphthous
Causes, incidence, and risk factorsCanker sores are a common form of mouth ulcer. They occur in women more often than men. They may occur at any age, but usually first appear between the ages of 10 and 40.
Canker sores usually appear on the inner surface of the cheeks and lips, tongue, soft palate, and the base of the gums.
Canker sores can run in families. They may also be linked to problems with the body's immune (defense) system. The sores may occur after a mouth injury due to dental work, aggressive tooth cleaning, or biting the tongue or cheek.
Canker sores can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies (especially iron, folic acid, or vitamin B-12), menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies, and similar situations. They occur most commonly with viral infections. In some cases, the cause can not be identified.
SymptomsThe first symptom is usually a tingling or burning sensation that you feel before other symptoms develop.
The following symptoms may then occur:
Less common symptoms include:
Pain decreases in 7 to 10 days, with complete healing in 1 to 3 weeks. Particularly large ulcers (greater than 1 cm in diameter) often take longer to heal (2 to 4 weeks). Occasionally, a severe occurrence may be accompanied by nonspecific symptoms of illness, such as fever. Canker sores often return.
Signs and testsYour health care provider can often make the diagnosis by looking at the sore. If canker sores persist or continue to return, tests should be done to rule out other causes, such as erythema multiforme, drug allergies, herpes infection, bullous lichen planus, and other disorders.
Canker sores are not cancer and do not cause cancer. There are types of cancer, however, that may first appear as a mouth ulcer that does not heal. See: Squamous cell carcinoma.
A biopsy may be used to distinguish a canker sore from other causes of mouth ulcers.
TreatmentTreatment is usually not necessary. In most cases, the canker sores go away by themselves.
If you have a canker sore, you should not eat hot or spicy foods, which can cause pain. Mild, over-the-counter mouth washes or salt water may help. There are over-the-counter medicines that soothe the painful area. These medicines are applied directly to the sore area of the mouth.
The easiest home remedy is a mixture of half hydrogen peroxide and half water. Use a cotton swab to apply the mixture directly to the canker sore. Then, dab a small amount of Milk of Magnesia on the canker sore, three to four times a day. This is soothing and may also help it heal.
Another home remedy is to mix half Milk of Magnesia and half Benadryl liquid allergy medicine. Swish this mixture in your mouth for about 1 minutes, then spit it out.
Other treatments for more severe cases include applying fluocinonide gel (Lidex) or chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. Powerful anti-inflammatory medicines called corticosteroids are sometimes used.
To prevent bacterial infection, brush and floss your teeth regularly and visit the dentist for routine care.
Expectations (prognosis)Canker sores usually heal on their own. The pain usually decreases in a few days. Other symptoms disappear in 10 to 14 days.
ComplicationsAntibiotic treatment for canker sores may lead to oral thrush (a type of mouth infection) or other Candida infections. Rarely, bacterial infections such as cellulitis and Ludwig's angina may occur.
Canker sores are not cancer and don't lead to cancer. But if you have a mouth ulcer lasts more that 2 weeks, you should see your doctor to rule out possible cancer.
Calling your health care providerApply home treatment and call your health care provider if symptoms of canker sores persist or worsen, or canker sores recur more often than 2 or 3 times per year.
Call your health care provider if symptoms are associated with other problems such as fever, diarrhea, headache, or skin rash.

How much Aleve equals 40 mg of prednisone?
Since they are two completely different meds, there is no way to compare the two. Aleve is an NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory) and Prednisone is a steroid. Trying to compare the two is impossible.
What does Prednisone do for strep throat?
nothing, as a mater of fact prednizone will make you more prone to infections and communicable illnesses.
