The girls then think there torment is over but in the next book, Wicked, A is back.

Mona has been replaced by Ali herself. The truth was that Ali actually had an identical twin sister, who was mentally ill. Ali killed her sister and everyone in Rosewood believed it was Ali who died. No one in Rosewood knew about Alis twin sister because it was shame on the family and they didnt want her to be bullied. Her twin was in a mental home so when Ali killed her sister she posed as her twin, who isnt named in the books. As Ali was perfectly healthy, the doctors believed that she had healed of her disability and discharded her from the home. She then replaced Mona as A. She is revealed in one of the later books.

I dont think Mona is revealed as A in the TV series because in the books, she is revealed just after Hanna is hit by A in a car. In the TV series, this incident occured in the 1st series quite early on.

Also, the Tv version might not portray Ali as A because alot of things in the series do not happen in the books and somethings are missed out in the shows.
