I sent Coach an email asking them about lead and other toxins in their products (leather handbags). This is what they said:

"We appreciate your concern about the integrity of the materials used in Coach products, given the recent publicity about lead in products made in China. The Coach brand represents a unique combination of workmanship and materials that stand for quality, authenticity, value and truly distinctive American style. Please be assured that Coach complies with all rules and regulations relating to the materials used in our products. This includes testing for toxic chemicals, including lead." (April 28th 2013)

When I asked back what specific rules and regulations they are complying with and what the test results for lead are they responded this:

" Unfortunately, we are unable to specify our regulations used to test our products.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

After some research it appears that there are only regulations in place for toys and paint when it comes to lead. Apparently retailers and manufacturers of products like handbags and wallets have said that they comply with the regulations for toys in that regard but I don't know if that's the case for Coach as well. Given their very short and unspecific answer I choose to not buy Coach products anymore out of fear that they might contain harmful amounts of lead.

As long as the actual logo isn't on the bag it should be fine, that is how people get away with selling DE or DC bags that are knock offs of DG.

Some companies can actually make products with licensed logos if they pay the licencing fee.

Also if you are putting the name of the brand on tags or signs make it "compare our prices to: DG" for example.

It means you need to put down your purse and the floor was the most convenient place.

i had this problem one time and relized i had no other choice this may sound grose but you need to go to a pawn shop and ask them to look at it they will think you will want to sell it but they will tell you if it is real or not. hope i helped

Yes, but it's not something big like a purse nowadays. They were most often a small single pocket bag with a clasp or drawstring called a "reticule". You could wear it on your wrist, or on a length of ribbon tied about your waist and hidden in the folds of your skirt. If you reenact like I do and need a bigger storage space to hide your modern conveniences, you can get a sewing basket or sewing caddy (which often times looks more like a larger decorative box with a handle and top on it to give a neat appearance). The only problem I have with these when I reenact is that they are bulky and tend to get in the way. Generally speaking a good 10cm X 15cm reticule can hold all your modern necessities (cellphone, money, license, gum, lip balm, pen and notepad are what I carry in a bag that size) for a day of reenactment
