You can't. You need 2 sides.
What are facts about Pythagoras?
1. Some think that Pythagoras actually stole his famous formula from the Babylonians (who had stolen it from the Indians).
2. He discovered square roots by comparing square piles of rocks and figured out the proportional interval of numbers between musical notes by listening to blacksmiths pounding on different sized anvils.
3. Pythagoras also started a weird religious commune with secretive doctrines involving geometric formulations. One of his inner circle of mathematikoi, Hippasos, came up with the concept of irrational numbers but it didn't fit well with Pythagoras' unique theology and it is said that he was executed on the master's orders.
4. Like some modern day vegans, Pythagoras believed that eating animal products was cannibalism because they might contain the trans-migrated souls of human ancestors.
5. The cult also refused to eat beans. Some historians think it is because they believed that a man only had so much "breath" in him and that any extra-curricular passing of gases shortened the lifespan. Others think it was because the beans were considered sacred in some way, perhaps because they were thought of as reincarnated people (human beans, in other words). One of the order was slaughtered by an angry mob who caught him when he refused to escape by crossing through a bean field for fear of trampling the delicate vegetables.
6. Pythagoras traveled far from his hometown of Samos and on one journey to Egypt was captured by the Persian army. He was taken as a prisoner to Babylon where he became the guest of Darius the Great. Interestingly, he spent much of his time visiting with the resident scholars, the Magi, around the time that Daniel (of the bible) was said to have been there. We'll never know if the two exchanged ideas and how much influence one had on the other.
7. His commune near Croton, Italy was eventually wiped out by a violent mob from the neighboring town after a political dispute. Pythagoras, however, was not present at the time and lived out his life in safety and peace. He died at the ripe old age of 75.
8. He believed that one's soul was going to be reincarnated. That is also what the Hindu religion tells as the truth. Pythagoras himself said that he had once before lived as a warrior in the Trojan war.
9. According to Pythagoras, a perfect number was 10.
Pythagoras' Theorem is a statement proving that in a right angled triangle the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse) equals the sum of the squares on the other two sides.
The formula for this is: A squared + B squared = C squared. C represents the hypotenuse on this formula, while A and B represent the other two perpendicular sides.
Exercise:Use squared paper & draw a triangle in the center of the page. Make the short sides of length 6 cm & 8 cm. Draw a square on each side. Measure the area of each square: hint 6 x 6 = 36 and so on. Having found the areas, add the areas of the squares on the two shorter sides. Compare your answer with the area of the square on the longest side. What do you notice? Repeat this for more triangles and see if you can see a pattern.
(The use of upper case for vertices and lower case for the actual sides of a triangle is prevalent. So we write triangle ABC having sides of length a, b, c.)
What did Pythagoras contribute to mathematics?
the pythagorean theorem
i would just like to say that he did not discover that, it was found in 800 B.C
Did Pythagoras work with any other mathematicians?
no he only worked by himself because when it came to credit and apluading he thought he was the only one who should deserve it.
Are there any places or buildings named after Pythagoras?
No but there r the Pythagoras theorem or the religious movement Pythagoreanism
Yes there is, where Pythagoras was born, Island of Samos, was changed to Pythagoreon
In math world what is Pythagoras famous for?
If I recall it correctly Pythagoras found the when dealing with right angle triangles, the square on the hypotenuse equaled the sum of the squares on the other two sides.
Where did Pythagoras get married?
Pythagoras got married in Samos, Greece, to a very young woman called Theano and had five children together.
Why did Pythagoras become famous?
Pythagoras became famous for proving that Pythagoras' theorem was correct, making other famous Greeks like Plato and Aristotle inspired to be a mathematician.
He didn't have a job. He was a mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher. He founded a Pythagorean School to teach others all that he had learned during his life, as he had traveled to many countries of the world becoming arguably the most educated person in the world at that time. Back then during 600-500 BC things worked much differently.
-Edit
Isn't teaching a job?
There are no primary written documents of Pythagoras' life, but he was said to be born around 580 and 572 BC and died between 500 and 490 BC for unknown reasons.
What are the good points to the Pythagorean theorem?
Pythagorean theorem:
Usually revolves around the hypotenuse side of a triangle [The side opposite the right angle]. What you do is, You look at the length of all the sides.
If Side A [the hypotenuse] Is 8cm long, side B is 3 cm long and side C is 4 cm long. Then what you do is, use this rule.
A squared = B squared + c squared. Which basically means, get the lengths of the two sides that are NOt the hypotenuse. Square them. Add them together. Then square root your answer.
For example, the answer to: If Side A [the hypotenuse] Is 8cm long, side B is 3 cm long and side C is 4 cm long is:
8x8=64. 3x3=9. 64+9=53. Square route of 53 = 7.28 [rounded]
So basically, Square B and C, add them together, square root it to get the length of the hypotenuse
