Italian manufacturer Ray Ban. They are famous for their aviators, first used by the US military.
Ray Ban is a subsidiary of Luxottica Group, whose ticker is LUX
In many ways, Ray Ban is the father of the designer sunglasses we can all wear today. Ray Ban grew out of a company that was established by John Jacob Bausch and Henry C Lomb, two German immigrants who lived in New York. Bausch and Lomb specialised in eyewear and set up their first company in 1853.
At this point, sunglasses weren't even a twinkle in the founders' eyes. Their focus was on precision eyewear and lenses - as well as designing monocles, the company also produced telescopes, binoculars and camera lenses.
In 1937, when Lieutenant John MacCready returned from a balloon trip to find his eyes had been damaged by the intense sunlight, and decided that he would approach the successful Bausch & Lomb optical manufacturer to come up with a prototype of a well designed, and protective pair of sunglasses.
They came up with a frame that provided excellent vision even in the brightest sunlight, with glass lenses that cut out infrared and ultraviolet rays. The prototype was then adopted by the Air Force and Bausch & Lomb became the Army's supplier throughout the war for protective eyewear.
I got a pair of fake Ray Ban Wayfarers in Chinatown NYC for $12...But you have to bargain down with them
lens made of crystal, i guess it makes for a clearer sight, i actually found a pair with crystal lens. they do feel a bit heavy on your nose though.
Ray-Ban is part of a larger company called The Luxottica Group. The mission statement for Luxottica is:
We at Luxottica aim at protecting the eyes and enhancing the faces of men and women all over the world, by manufacturing and selling ophthalmic eyewear and sunwear characterized by their high technical and stylistic quality, in order to maximize our customers' wellbeing and satisfaction.
I don't believe they have a separate mission/vision statement for the Ray-Ban division...I couldn't find it in the business database I have access to at work. Keep in mind that this is an Italian company...the business culture there is somewhat different from the US...they may not be so fired up about writing a mission statement for every possible division of the company!
well i just recently purchased a pair from my local pawn shop for 20 dollars but mine are black with raybans on the arms but not on the lenses it has a slant to the frame so idk i guess thats how?
