only thing i can tell ya about the company is that they have been out of business for years. i have a hammer-less double barrel that needs new fingers cock the hammers, took it to a gun smith and he told me that all riverside arms were HAND made. No parts where interchangeable. that's about all i can remember about it though, I can tell you the gunsmith had one just like it. he said they were rare. his name is sonny and you can reach him at west end shooting supplies in Athens tn. anyhow good luck it Riverside Arms was an "economy brand" of J. Stevens. There will be an identical gun with the Stevens name and probably also one marked Springfield Arms. Not rare, collected, or valuable. The Riverside double was indeed manufactured by J. Stevens Co. and it is the same gun as the J. Stevens Model 315. This was one of several "utility shotguns" made by Stevens from 1877-1988. From what I've found, the value on this shotgun is: NIB $1.000.00 Excellent=$500.00-$200.00. There is a year code stamped on every Stevens double barrel shotgun produced between March 1949 and December 1968. The serial number is prefixed with a letter. If your shotgun does not have a letter preceding the serial number it was made prior to 1949. If you're looking for parts on this item, I was able to find them @ e-gunparts.com (It was http://www.e-gunparts.com/model.asp?idDept=209 unless the URL has changed) Hope this helps!
Is this a double barrel or a pump shotgun? If it's really in like new condition, I would get photos and seek appraisals. Those are very hard to find. However, there isn't a lot of interest, so it probably wouldn't more than double the typical price in the $200 range.
"Like new" means no scratches, scuffs, wear, and no more than a dozen rounds through it. Ideally, it should still have factory grease, labels or marks. There should be no bore erosion and only minimal surface wear on mechanical components.
I paid 400.00 for mine. very good condition. Clint Taylor, haleyville al.
This is likely a Stevens 315 I also have a hammerless double barrel shotgun but it has J Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls Mass patented April 20 1915.The way I was told to tell what model it was,by the length of the upper tang. The model 315 has a 2 5/8" Tang and a model 515 has a Tang of 2 7/8".My gun is the model 315 and from the J Stevens name I have been told that it was made between 1915 and 1936.As far as the value goes I have seen them go for between $250.-$400. I got mine at a garage sale for $100. 5 years ago.
Riverside was acquired by the Stevens company about 1920, and the Riverside name continued for about 20 years. These were utility grade shotguns. Unfortunately, there was been a brisk trade in making "Wells Fargo" shotguns- there are more out there than Wells Fargo ever owned. I would urge you to get a hands on appraisal by someone with a good knowledge of shotguns- to the best of my knowledge, Wells Fargo bought higher quality arms. Sorry to be the bearer of possible bad news-
Riverside Arms is a brand name used by the J Stevens Arms Co. on many good quality double barrel shotguns. The value depends on model, gauge, and condition. The values can range from $100 to $1600. Seek professional appraisal from a gunsmith or advanced collector.
50$ to 600$ depending on condition.
