Saber toothed cats were not built for long distance running, or even for speed. Instead, they would ambush their prey and then attempt to pounce on it or catch it after a very short chase. They probably couldn't even run a whole mile at a time.

As they are extinct there is little importance to modern societies other than those people that study prehistoric animals.

If they could catch the tiger, probably to make sandals or something to protect their bodies. But, first of all, they ate the tiger for sure. However, I think that the saber-toothed cat didn't live at the Ice age. They lived at the Eocene Epoch to the end of the Pleistocene Epoch (42 mya-11,000 years ago), existing for approximately 42 million years.

Saber toothed cats became extinct at the end of the Pleistocene, 10,000 years ago. They probably died out because important food sources, such as mammoths and mastodons, became extinct. It is still unknown why those megafaunal herbivores died out.

saber tooth tiger has ben called saber tooth cator smiladon for years because it was found that they were more closely related to lions & not tigers.it was found that thay had small short manes,but i am not positive if thay are in the same family as lions.
