Why are there limited variety of plants found in the sigatoka sand dunes?
The first National Park, Sigatoka National Park opened in July, 1989. It has area of about 650 hectares. The dunes has a massive diversity of endemic and exotic (introduced) plant species. It is around 3 km away from the Sigatoka town. The sand in the dunes is deposited in the north west direction because of the South East trade winds blowing the sand inland. The dune has grassland, woodland, savannah vegetation which has many types of species.
