What is the cause of sarcoidosis?

The exact cause of sarcoidosis is unknown, although it is thought that it might occur when your immune system overreacts to something such as an unknown toxin, drug or pathogen that enters your body through your airways. Some doctors or researchers speculate that the bacterica may be something called nontuberculous mycobacterium which is one a noncontagious bacteria that causes tuberculosis. Other theories are that sarcoidosis is partly genetic, laying dormant until it is exposed to an unknown toxin. A normal immune system usually protects the body from viruses and bacteria. With Sarcoidosis something called T-helper lymphocytes over respond to some perceived threat such as a virus and produce small areas of inflammation called granulomas.
The causes of sarcoid disease are not clear. Current evidence suggests that sarcoidosis is due to the abnormal proliferation of a certain cell called a T-helper cell, which functions to help immune cells attack a foreign substance.

Can Sarcoidosis cause bleeding behind the eye?

It is unlikely that it will cause bleeding behind the eye. The eyes are affected in 15% of people with sarcoidosis. Inflammation of certain internal eye structures (uveitis) makes the eyes red and painful and interferes with vision. Inflammation that persists for a long time may block fluid from draining from the eye, causing glaucoma, which can lead to blindness. Granulomas may form in the conjunctiva (the membrane over the eyeball and inside the eyelids). Such granulomas often do not cause symptoms, but the conjunctiva is an accessible site from which doctors can take tissue samples for examination. Some people with sarcoidosis complain of dry, sore, and red eyes, probably because sluggish tear glands that have been affected by the disorder no longer produce enough tears to keep the eyes lubricated.

Are mesothelioma and sarcoidosis the same?

Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the lining of certain organs, and sarcoids ( or sarcoidosis) is an inflammation of the lung.

Sarcoidosis is a disease of unknown cause that leads to inflammation. It can affect various organs in the body.

Normally, your immune system defends your body against foreign or harmful substances. For example, it sends special cells to protect organs that are in danger.

These cells release chemicals that recruit other cells to isolate and destroy the harmful substance. Inflammation occurs during this process. Once the harmful substance is destroyed, the cells and the inflammation go away.

In people who have sarcoidosis, the inflammation doesn't go away. Instead, some of the immune system cells cluster to form lumps called granulomas in various organs in your body.

Answer 2:

The information listed above is good, but if you need more information about mesothelioma you may refer to the National Institutes of Health entry for mesothelioma http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/mesothelioma.html

Can you work with having sarcoidosis?

I am sure it depends on the stage of sarcoid a person has. i was diagnosed with sarcoid (lungs) 14 years ago and have been able to maintain a fulltime job during this time while missing very little work. My biggest struggle is getting tired by midday. Ironically i feel better when at work than on weekends or off time. My mind is occupied on work rather than my sarcoid. Some days are better than others. I recommend getting plently of rest and sleep each night and good preparation for the work days.
