The term "Dry Flat" is usually related to washing and wool clothing but not exclusive. It normally means that the object - jumper or skirt, should be laid out flat so that it dries in that position. It stops the garment stretching, as the water would follow gravity and stretch the garment.

Just lay the garment in question flat across a drying rack. Do not hang on a washing line or drape over a radiator.

The Chinese pentatonic scale I believe is roughly three or four thousand years old.
