Are the mariners going to make it to the playoffs?

Because the bulk of their roster comes from the signing of aging and overpriced free agents. To win baseball games, you need to trade wissely and develop talent through a farm system. (See: Tampa Bay Rays)

What was the longest mariners game?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I am not positive, but I think there was a very long game played between the Rangers and Orioles back in the 1990's that came close to setting a record. However, if you Google "longest games", it doesn't come up. I was living in Dallas at the time but now in Baltimore. Anyone remember this? According to an article I found on pressboxonline.com issued June 22, 2006 the Orioles longest game, timewise, was a 14 inning game against the Yankees in 1988 that lasted 5 hours and 46 minutes. Haven't found the longest game, inningswise, that they've played.

What Seattle Mariners players have worn the number 37?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The only HOF'er I could come up with that wore the number 37 was Casey Stengel, but as a manager.

Casey Stengel played baseball From 1912 -1925 before ballplayers wore numbers on their uniforms. It was not until 1929 when the Yankees became the first team to use numbers regularly, and about 1937 before every team wore numbers.

Numbers were first given out to players as to their position in the batting order. For example Babe Ruth batted third in the line up, and wore number 3, Lou Gehrig wore number 4 as he batted fourth. Most numbers handed out in the early days were low numbers, and reserved for the top stars of the team therefore most Hall Of Fame players would have a number below the number 37. Higher numbers are often given to rookie players, and as they become a more prominent player on the team might switch to a lower number.

As time goes on and the lower numbers are retired from use, more stars will be wearing higher numbers, and in the future more HOF'ers will have the number 37. For a list of players that wore or are wearing the number 37 see Related Links below.
