Different types of joints have different purposes in the skeletal system. The movable joints exist to allow the bones to move. Most of the immovable joints originally allowed movement in infancy or childhood.

There is more than one organ in there... Mainly the heart and lungs, but there are also parts of the digestive tract.

The atlas bone, also known as C1, is responsible for the nodding motion of the head in a "yes" gesture. It is the topmost vertebra in the spine and allows for the unique range of motion needed for this movement.

We also have 5 metacarpals in each hand. The sum now is 19. With 8 carpals connecting the wrist to the hand we would have 27 bones in our hand and wrist!
