Is keeping wild caught land snails Cepaea hortensis and Cepaea nemoralis found in the northeast USA hazardous at all to me or my child?

No it's not but, It is possible to keep some snail species as pets - there are only four I would recommend: Helix pomatia, Helix aspersa, Cepaea nemoralis and Cepaea hortensis. Any others are too small or have needs that are too specific to be recreated in captivity. See the section on Giant African Land Snail care, which can broadly apply to these species, except that the tank will not need to be as hot, and of course they require less space and food. If you found them eating a certain plant, provide it for them when they're in captivity. The advantage of keeping these snails as pets is that you can always return them to the wild when you do not wish to look after them anymore.

Can you microwave a snail to eat?

I once got bored and found a snail in my garden, i brought in into the kitchen for the cat to play with, but she didn't want anything to do with it, then i happened to glance at the microwave, and i thought what would happen if you microwaved a snail.

well, within the first 3 seconds the snail exploded and turned the entire inside of my lovely white microwave a horrid green colour due to its insides etc. and it stank of damp mouldy grass. I spent ages wiping it clean :(

For your benefit, I recommend you don't microwave any snails :)

Do snails make a noise when eating?

by the way the answer is not no!

I live in an area amazingly overrun with imported brown snails (imported for food use, BTW) I keep a strictly organic garden so I hand pick snails. Iusually find between 50 and 100 every time I go out to pick them this time ofyear. They do indeed make a sqeaking noise when they are picked up. This is the sound made as they retreat into their shells and air is forced our through tiny spaces
