In The Giver Jonas comforted Gabriel by providing him with love and physical contact. He would hold Gabriel in his arms hug him and talk to him. Jonas also worked with Gabriel to help him learn to sleep through the night. He would stay with Gabriel in his bed until he fell asleep and then Jonas would read him stories. Jonas also gave Gabriel special privileges such as allowing him to stay up late that the other children in the community did not have. These actions helped Gabriel to feel safe and comforted during his time with Jonas.

Jonas also provided Gabriel with emotional support. He was always there to talk to Gabriel when he was feeling overwhelmed or frustrated and he listened to him patiently. Jonas also gave Gabriel encouragement and praised him for his efforts. By doing these things Jonas was able to help Gabriel to feel safe secure and valued.

In "The Giver," sameness was established as a way to eliminate the differences and inequalities that had caused pain and suffering in the past. It was implemented to create a stable and harmonious society where everyone is equal and content. This concept of sameness originated from the leaders of the community who believed it was necessary for maintaining control and order.

The Giver cannot accompany Jonas because he is too old and weak to make the journey. Additionally, the society needs him to stay behind and continue to hold the memories for the community.

The memories of the Giver are important, theoretically, so that they still have one touchstone to their past, and can have warning if some lesson of the past needs to teach them something, even though they have moved beyond that.

Truthfully though, the memories without appropriate context probably couldn't have helped that society much, because any lesson the giver tried to share wouldn't be understood by people who had been raised to not even understand the basics of what he was saying.

Later, after the giver escapes (in later books), his memories are valuable to people who are trying to fight scary societies like the one he grew up in.

The word "luminous" can be found in "The Giver" in the following sentence: "Jonas blinked at the luminous sun."

In Jonas's community, the elderly are treated with respect and care. They are given comfortable living accommodations and medical attention as needed. However, once they reach a certain age and are deemed no longer productive, they are released from the community in a ceremony called "release" which is meant to be a form of euthanasia.

Once people in The Giver start stirrings, they must immediately report it. They also have to take pills to prevent and stop the stirrings.

Jonas met up with Asher at the House of the Old where Asher was completing his volunteer hours. They exchanged pleasantries and discussed their upcoming assignments for the Ceremony of Twelve.

The pilot is most likely released from the community if they no longer meet the flying requirements, fail to comply with regulations, or if there are safety concerns about their performance. Additionally, they may be released if they no longer fit the culture or values of the organization.

Jonas's rule sheet separates him from others in the community by imposing strict regulations and limitations on his behavior, leading to isolation and a sense of being different. Following the rules set him apart and made it harder for him to connect with his peers who were not burdened by such restrictions, ultimately deepening his sense of alienation.

In The Giver, children who turn seven are given a comfort object, like a stuffed animal, as they start their school years in the community. They also start their volunteer hours and begin to learn more about the roles they might take on in the future.

The first non-pleasurable memory that the Giver transmits to Jonas is a memory of sledding down a hill and experiencing a painful injury when he hit a rock at the bottom. This memory is meant to show Jonas the concept of pain and injury, which he has never experienced before in his community.

When the Giver started sharing memories with Jonas, he experienced a release of pent-up emotions, understanding, and a sense of relief in being able to pass on his knowledge and burdens to another person.

The Ceremony of Eights is when children in the community are given their bicycles. Children who turn eight are given a bicycle to become more independent and mobile in the community. It is an important milestone in the child's life.

They plan to have Jonas escape. Jonas will ride away from the community and let the memories gradually go back into the community and the Giver will stay and help the people cope with the new memories. Ultimately Jonas takes Gabriel out of fear that they will kill the child (Gabriel doesn't sleep without Jonas' memories of warmth and settle rocking).

They got rid of hills to make transportation easier and sunshine to keep it from getting to hot in the community

When Jonas left the community at the end of "The Giver," it's likely that there was confusion and distress among the residents.
