The “Classic” Temptations were David Ruffin, Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and Melvin Franklin (David English). After David Ruffin left, he was replaced by Dennis Edwards. After Eddie Kendricks left he was replaced by Damon Harris. When Paul died, Richard Street was added. Along the way, there were other tremendously talented men that Otis brought in, not the least of which were Glenn Leonard, Ron Tyson, Theo People’s and the incomparable Ali-Ollie Woodson. There were others too, including G.C. Cameron.

They had an appointment at Hitsville but when they told them their name was the Elgins they were told to wait outside and think of another name. After much deliberation they came up with a name they said was forbidden, the Temptations.

Paul Williams - The Temptations - was born on 1939-07-02.
If you're talking about Paul Williams from The Temptations, he died August 17th 1973. of a "supposedly" suicide, but evidence of the murder/suicide still has people wondering whether Mr. Williams actually killed himself or was it a homicide.
Paul- died
Eldridge-fired because of altercations w/ Paul
Otis- still with the temptations
Eddie- died of lung cancer
Melvin (Blue)- died of a seizure
Paul- suicide but some beg to differ
David- overdose on drugs
David Ruffin was replaced Eldridge so he was not an original temptation but he was named one of the original 5 because he replaced Eldridge before they really blew up

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, my girl, my girl
Talkin' 'bout my girl
My girl
I've got so much honey, the bees envy me
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees
Well, I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, my girl, my girl
Talkin' 'bout my girl
My girl
Ooh
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Yeah
I don't need no money, fortune or fame
I got all the riches baby, one man can claim
Well, I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, my girl, my girl
Talkin' 'bout my girl
My girl
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
With my girl
I've even got the month of may
With my girl
Talkin' 'bout, talkin' 'bout
Talkin' 'bout my girl, my girl
That's all I can talk about
Is my girl
I believe "Build Me Up Buttercup." was song by the "Foundations."
Otis Williams did sing lead on some of The Temptations songs. One particular track is "Dont send me away".
Another Otis lead is on "I Ain't Got Nothing." You listen to it at the Old School Music Lover Blog link provided.
Additional "Otis" tracks appear on more later albums but such songs are rare.
