The Three Stooges

The Three Stooges began in the "Ted Healy and his Southern Gentlemen" show and included Healy with the three 'Horwitz' brothers: young Moe Howard, his brother, Shemp Howard, and Larry Fine. In 1958, comic actor Joe DeRita, who looked remarkably like Curly, became known as "Curly Joe." Through the 1960s, television made The Three Stooges into stars. The Three Stooges' antics continue today in syndicated television programs.

For the thought of her is one that never dies:

She's sleeping in the valley, the valley, the valley;

She's sleeping in the valley,

And the mocking bird singing where she lies.

Chorus:

Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,

The mocking bird still singing o'er her grave;

Listen to the mocking bird, listen to the mocking bird,

Still singing where the weeping willows wave.

Additional Verses:

Ah! well I yet remember, remember, remember,

Ah! well I yet remember,

When we gather'd in the cotton side by side;

'Twas in the mild September, September, September,

'Twas in the mild September,

And the mocking bird was singing far and wide.

When the charms of spring awaken, awaken, awaken:

The Stooges are detectives looking for the stolen Punjab diamond. They track a lead to a dive that a heavy named Dapper owns. They search some rooms until they come across Dapper's girlfriend who has hidden the diamond in a bowl of mints. The Stooges stay in the room with the girlfriend waiting for Dapper to return.

As they are waiting, Moe and Larry start flipping popcorn in the air and catching it with their mouths. Shemp is setting with the girlfriend next to a table with the bowl of mints on it and starts doing the same with the mints. Of course, he unknowingly picks up the diamond and catches it in his mouth and swallows it. Dapper returns and his girlfriend tells him that the diamond is in Shemp's stomach. After Moe and Larry unsuccessfully attempt to get Shemp to regurgitate the diamond, Dapper and his partner step in and start pushing Shemp around. Shemp says "Cut it out!" and Dapper says "Cut it out ... that's just what we're gonna do!". The two throw Moe and Larry in a closet and tie up Shemp on a table to prepare for the operation.

While in the closet, a bag of tools falls on Larry's head and he and Moe start sawing through the wall to get to an adjoining room. They get through the wall and into a cage with a gorilla. The gorilla knocks them out and climbs through the hole into the closet.

Dapper's partner goes to the closet for some anesthetic to put Shemp out for the operation and encounters the gorilla who promptly knocks him out. The gorilla then walks over to Dapper and works him over until eventually knocking him out. He/She/It then walks to the table where Shemp is tied up and leans over Shemp and growls and breathes in his face. Then He/She/It slaps Shemp in the stomach and the diamond pops out of Shemp's mouth. The gorilla catches the diamond as the two heavies wake up. Shemp takes the diamond from the gorilla and He/She/It proceeds to knock out the two heavies again.

Shemp gets out of the ropes and leaves the room and meets up with Moe and Larry. He shows them the diamond and Moe asks how he was able to swallow the diamond. Shemp throws the diamond up in the air, catches it in his mouth, and swallows it again. The short ends with Larry delivering an anesthetic to Shemp (hammer to the head) and Moe using a turnerrounder on Shemp's stomach in an attempt to retrieve the diamond.
