what you need to do is have your board between 4-6 feet from anything in the room you will also want to make sure that there is no large metal objects within 10 feet of the board those will mess with the wireless scanners in the board and will make it from synching up properly. you might also want to try doing it without having anyone in the room including yourself. If you are still having issues try placing a thin fleece blanket over the top of the board what that does is makes the sensors weaker and will help sync
Tony Hawk is still alive. He is married to Lhotse Merriame, has 4 children, has multiple video games, has retired from contests (but still skates), has his own skate company (Birdhouse), and many other things.

If you are referring to why he stopped competing in the early 2000's, there are myriad answers, but the short version, paraphrased from Tony's words, is that the contests were less interesting to him, and his schedule got to the point where he could do other things and help skateboarding more by spending his time doing demos, clinics and other activities.
